3 Major Signs it Might be Time for Divorce

Breaking up is hard to do—but that doesn’t mean it’s always wrong. While it is important to work hard on a marriage before choosing to go down the route of divorce, sometimes this is the best and only option. This is why today, although the divorce rate is dropping, it still stands at around 40%.

If you’ve exhausted all of your other options, you are no longer happy in your relationship, or your marriage is somehow damaging yourself or others, then it could be time for divorce. If you’re unsure of whether this might be the case in your marriage, there are some signs you can look for. Read on for some major indicators it may be time to call it quits.

1. Your Lives Have Drifted Apart

Marriages are partnerships built on love, but even more than that a desire to join two lives together. This doesn’t mean you need to be co-dependent, spend every moment together, or have separate interests. But if lately, you have noticed that you have little in common or that your lives are going in different directions and you don’t have a desire to bring them back together again, then it’s possible you might be better off apart.

2. You are Focusing too Much On Other People

Even for married people, it is perfectly normal to have thoughts about people who are not their spouses or notice another person’s attractiveness from time to time. However, when this begins to become a more and more regular occurrence, it might be cause for concern. If you are constantly having thinking about other people, or if you have started paying a lot of attention to another person (even if no physical relationship occurred) these could be signs it’s time to end your marriage.

3. You Are No Longer Physical Compatible

For some people, physical intimacy is not a big part of marriage. For others, it is vitally important. If one party is not feeling fulfilled in a marriage, this warrants at least a conversation.

If you’ve tried different ways to ensure you are both happy with your physical relationship, but nothing seems to be working, then divorce is something you may want to seriously consider.

Steps Toward Getting a Divorce

If you are considering a divorce, you might first want to seek outside help, to see if the marriage is salvageable. This could be from a marriage counselor, a trusted friend, or a therapist. If you’re sure about your decision, there are steps you need to take.

First, you will need to find a good family lawyer to help with the legal side of things. Next, you will need to let your friends and family know. Finally, you will need to figure out your living arrangements while the divorce is ongoing.

When You Know It’s Time for Divorce

If any of the above statements sound like they might apply to you or your marriage, you should think long and hard about whether it might be time for divorce. It’s a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly, but sometimes, it’s the best one you can make.
