4 Common Boat Cleaning Errors and How to Avoid Them

Over ten percent of American households own a boat. If you’re one of them, you’ll want to ensure that you’re taking care of your boat the right way. That includes all aspects of maintenance – including cleaning.

But, how do you make sure that you’re cleaning your boat the right way?

Read on to learn about the most common boat cleaning errors.

1. Not Cleaning Enough

Your boat really does need to be cleaned on a regular basis, even if you’re not using it. Parts of your boat will need to be cleaned much more often. If your fridge has a boat, for example, it needs to be cleaned out approximately every two weeks.

2. Taking Shortcuts

You shouldn’t take shortcuts when you’re cleaning your boat. Just pressure washing boats can seem easy, but it can cause damage if you overdo it or don’t do it correctly.

Another shortcut you might consider taking is leaving your boat to air dry. Your boat needs to be wiped down with a soft fiber cloth. Otherwise, you could end up with random white flecks all over your boat, and you’ll just have to wash it all over again.

Check the instructions for every material on your boat, and follow the directions carefully to ensure that there aren’t any problems.

3. Missing a Step in the Process

It’s important to have a solid boat cleaning routine. And, it’s just as important to never miss a step when you’re cleaning your boat. You may want to have a checklist you can refer to.

A lot of people forget to clean the upholstery on their boat. But, if you have a handy-dandy checklist, you’ll remember to take a look at it. That way, you won’t end up with mildew and a far more expensive repair situation on your hands.

Your boat will also need to be rinsed. This will ensure you get all your cleaning products off of your boat. That way, you’ll be able to keep an eye out for scratches or other problems on your boat each time you get out of the water.

4. Using the Right Products

You can’t just use any old product when you’re cleaning your boat. These could end up damaging the coat of your boat, and then you’ll have to spend a bunch more money in repairs.

Read reviews of different products, and see what the professionals recommend you use. You can even ask your boat maintenance company what they would recommend for your needs.

You’ll want to get this boat vinyl cleaner to ensure your boat is as clean as it can be. You’ll also need some sort of chrome polish for the accents on your boat. And, of course, you’ll likely need a wax sealant.
