5 Benefits of Becoming a Canadian Citizen

Do you have the opportunity of becoming a Canadian citizen? Congratulations! Canada is a beautiful, welcoming country that would be lucky to have you.

People born in the country and those with a permanent residency all have the opportunity of becoming a citizen of Canada. If your spouse or children are Canadian, you may also be able to become Canadian too.

But if you have American citizenship, for example, you may be wondering if there is any point in applying for another citizenship.

The process of becoming a Canadian citizen isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. This guide won’t teach you how to become a Canadian citizen, but here are the top benefits of being a Canadian citizen.

1. Canadian Citizens Have More Job Opportunities

If you have Canadian permanent residency, you could be missing out on great jobs if you don’t have citizenship. Careers in law enforcement and data need security clearances that are not possible to get when you are not a citizen.

2. Can Apply for a Canadian Passport

Did you know that the Canadian passport is the 9th most powerful passport in the world? If you are a travel lover, that might be all the convincing you need for becoming a Canadian citizen!

You would be able to visit 140 out of the 195 countries in the world without a visa as a tourist. For people from India, the Philippines, and other countries with poor passports, this could be life-changing.

3. Don’t Have Any Residency Rules

To keep your permanent residency, you need to stay in Canada for 730 days (or two years) within a five-year period.

You might be happy to immigrate to Canada and stay there forever. But if you do decide to leave the country in the future, you would never be able to live in Canada again. Or at least, it would be very difficult.

But if you are a Canadian citizen, you can come and go as you please.

4. No More Bureaucracy

People with Canadian permanent residency need to renew their documents every five years. It’s time-consuming and can be stressful if you are unsure whether you will get another five years or not.

But if you are a Canadian citizen? No such stress. You only need to renew your Canadian passport every ten years like everyone else.

5. You Get to Live in Canada

This is by far one of the best benefits of becoming a Canadian citizen; you would be Canadian! You would be able to live or explore the beautiful cities of Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and many others as you choose.

You would be able to vacation anywhere from the Rockies to Nova Scotia whenever and for as long as you want.

Becoming a Canadian Citizen Could Be the Best Thing You Ever Did

Becoming a Canadian citizen might take years, a lot of paperwork, and it might not be cheap. But it will be 100% worth it to reap all the wonderful benefits of being Canadian. All that’s left to do is to drown your pancakes in maple syrup and watch some ice hockey to celebrate!
