5 best classroom team-building activities

Building a sense of alliance and unity is crucial from a young age. This is possible when the environment of the classroom is happy because happy kids learn better. Team building is essential for the overall well-being of an individual as it is a fundamental quality one must possess. There are some things that you cannot just tell the children to do. With fun activities, the children will learn the moral values by heart and also, they will experience how beneficial they are. Here are some classroom activities that will build trust and cooperation among people.

Building games

This is one of the classic activities that we all did as children. Activities that involve everyone in creating something together are great for team-building exercises. Children look for ideas together, make mistakes, learn from them and move forward. For instance, building the largest castle with cardboard or building the largest leggo are some fun and interesting games. The process should make the children indulge in the activity with their hearts and only then it will be useful for them. Involve gadgets like 3D printers for higher secondary students.

Shrinking classroom

The next super fun activity is the shrinking classroom which is suitable for all age groups. Take a rope or some traffic cones for shrinking the classroom. Firstly, divide the students into two groups and assign an area to them. Keep shrinking the classroom by making the area smaller with the help of ropes or cones. Keep doing this until one group wins. This allows students to come up with innovative ways of working together even when the situation is not ordinary. Keep pushing their limits by reducing the area and making it as small as possible.

Line up on the chair

Take some chairs and place them in a straight line with equal gaps between them. Ask the students to stand up on one chair each. Now, tell them to follow your orders but they must not get down from the chair and no one should fall either. For instance, you can ask them to arrange themselves in order of their heights. Next, you can ask them to arrange themselves by their age or roll number. To get things more exciting, you can set a time limit to this as well. It will bring out the best in students under pressure.

Walk through the obstacles

In the list of classroom team building activities, this one is suitable for students of all age groups. For this, you need to set up some obstacles in the classroom. From traffic cones and dustbins to chairs, you can use different props to create obstacles. Divide the class into two groups, the first one will have a blindfold on their eyes while the other group will guide the first group through the obstacles. Moreover, this activity is not only about teamwork but also instils trust among the students. The first one who gets through the obstacles and reaches the finish line first wins.

Switching the blanket

Take three to four students in a team and give each team a blanket. They now have to turn the blanket upside down without leaving it. Each time who does this within the time limit will win the game. Every team has to switch the blanket to the other side without letting it fall or touch the ground.

Final Words

These activities will allow the students to be closer and they will come together to focus on one issue at a time. Team building exercises should be regular in schools for all age groups and it is not a one-time thing.
