5 Personalised Gift Ideas

Personalised gifts can be really difficult, and just ‘window shopping’ online stores isn’t always much help. Every personalised gift is a random item with a name stamped on it. You want something better than that surely? Take a look at our ideas for personalised gifts and get them something truly unique.

Photo book

A great option for a personalised present is a photobook. What better way to show someone you cherish your time with them than an entire photo book dedicated to them. You can even create an Instagram photo book with the photos on your social media. Fill a photo book with memories of your time with them, all the brunches, late nights, and awkward moments, to celebrate in a book.

A New Charm

The classic go-to personalised gift is a charm. It’s a great way to make a jewellery gift personalised without giving the game away by asking about cut, colour, carats, etc. Plus, it has a certain, well, charm to it. If you don’t go for a name or initial you can go for “A + B” in a heart shape, or with “4 eva”, to evoke something teens scratch into tree barks.

What’s more, a charm has to be attached to something, like a bracelet, bag, or necklace, so it’s a two-in-one present.

Posters

If you have some photo editing skills, or even some basic Canva skills, you can create a poster around your gift receiver. The best part here is that you can personalise any aspect you want. Turn your own rom-com worthy meet cute into a romance poster, turn your nerdy boyfriend into a superhero, or your WWE fan into a wrestler. If you have an in-joke that they’re say, an adrenaline junkie, make the poster for The Walk, or if their dating life’s a disaster, turn them into Bridget Jones, or Fleabag. Toy with a photo or doodle it from scratch. You can do a lot with digital art today.

Fictional book

Take it a step further and have your story told in narrative form. This is a lot more common in children’s books, since it’ll take less time, but it’s possible to offer a bunch of details to the right person and have them deliver you an illustrated and poetic novel for you to read to the little ones – all about them. Choose to put them in a classic story, like Peter Pan, or create your own.

This would be another good use of a photo book. You can fill the novel with photo memories and create a narrative around them.

Think beyond the name

There is a common theme throughout most of these options: they’re not just a name stamped on an item. Looking up personalised gifts will inevitably point you towards pages and pages of pyjamas, bags, make-up and beauty sets, mugs, travel cases, and just about anything else in existence that can be marked with a name. That’s personalised to, say “Jenny” and the millions of other Jenny’s in the world. Put some extra thought into it. Do you have a nickname for Jenny? A shared memory that should be immortalised? A quality in her that you admire (or want to poke fun at)? That’s your starting point for a personalised gift. It’s not like she’s going to forget her name if it isn’t emblazoned on her travel case.
