5 Things We Can Learn from the Pandemic

2020 was a difficult year for everyone, but if we’re looking for the positives, we can definitely find things we have learned from this past year. The pandemic, subsequent lockdowns and everything in between was so unprecedented that it’s no wonder we can all take something away from it.

We’ve gathered some research on things many people feel they have learned from the pandemic. Check them out below.

We Actually Need Human Contact

Whether because we always had the option or because it just seemed like too much effort, many people pre-pandemic cancelled plans and avoided seeing friends and family on a regular basis. Moving everything online and only seeing loved ones through a laptop screen seems to have been the wakeup call we all need to realise that we actually do need human contact.

Loneliness was thrown into sharp focus during lockdown, and it allowed people to realise how much they need to see each other. Of course, there are anxieties surrounding re-entering the real world, and these anxieties are not without substance, but it’s essential we all begin socialising again for our mental health.

If you are worried about going out since things have opened back up, remember you can buy lateral flow covid test kits and make sure you’re covid-free every time you go out.

Remote Working is Possible

As much as some pre-covid bosses would have hated to admit it, remote working actually works. Staff are healthier and feel more productive, we have time for our mental health and wellbeing and companies can save on the costs of rent, heating, and electricity. With the benefits of remote working being experienced during lockdown, working flexibly, looks like it’s here to stay.

Flexible working means you can enjoy the best of both worlds, with the socialisation of the office on some days and the peace and quiet of home on others. If you are venturing back into the office, remember to stay safe and buy lateral flow covid test kits to ensure you’re covid-free on a regular basis.

Digital Innovation is Key

The minute we went into lockdown everything from education to shopping had to be moved online. For many, it will have been a steep learning curve in those first few weeks. The pandemic has shown us that it is essential to get on board with technology.

The technological innovation we have seen in the past year proves how capable we are of conducting business online. It meant that meetings that would usually take flights and long travel hours to undertake could be done online, and students who were confined to their homes could still receive an education. Technology has been at the forefront of the pandemic, and we need to make sure we remember that.

Home is a Safe Place

Pre-pandemic, many used their homes as a place to eat, sleep and bathe. After months in lockdown, people are realising that their homes are a safe place. With flexible working becoming popular, more and more people are working from home and with more time spent there, we’re learning that a comfortable and safe home can do wonders for your mental and physical health.

Health is Key

And finally, since we first heard of Covid-19, we’ve been inundated with instructions on how to maintain our hygiene. And as many tragically lost their lives to the virus, people started to really consider their own health, and what they could do to boost it.

In the past year, thousands of people have begun cooking healthier, eating more plant-based meals and engaging in various forms of exercise to pass time while on furlough. The pandemic has shed light on how well we take care of ourselves, and people are making changes now, thinking of their future.
