6 Spring Time Sports To Take Up This Season

Spring is a wonderful time of year in Australia. The temperatures are starting to rise again, the trees are beginning to bud and spending more time outdoors begins to become more appealing. If you have been hibernating all winter, now is the time to dust off your sports equipment, break out your outdoor gear and start planning for some outdoor adventures. 

There are countless sports that you can get involved in during spring to encourage yourself to be more active and to spend more time outside. No matter what your interests are, whether you like to compete, take part in the sport for fun, play alone or with friends, there is no end to the list of sports and activities that you can choose from. Taking up a new sport this spring will help to stay in shape, meet new people learn a new skill and spend more time outside soaking up the all-important vitamin D and breathing in the fresh air.

Bike Some Trails

Whether you enjoy road biking or venturing off-road, spending time in the saddle is a great way to stay fit. There are loads of clubs that you can join where you can meet other like-minded people to share your new passion with. Look for a mountain bike for sale that will meet your requirements or if you are strapped for cash, you might even be able to borrow a bike to try this exciting sport before you commit to owning your own bike. 

Try Swimming

The vast majority of the Australian population lives near the coast so there are plenty of opportunities to get in the water and start swimming. If swimming in the ocean isn’t your thing, search for a pool, indoor or outdoor, near you and dive into this fantastic sport. If you are new to swimming, be sure to take some lessons to build your confidence and to ensure that you have the basics down before diving into this fun sport this spring. 

Go Running

Running is more fun than you might think. The first few outings can be tough if you are new to the sport, however, with time, your endurance will improve and you will be able to enjoy your time on the road or the trails. Make sure you get a decent pair of running shoes so that you have the support you need to stay comfortable when you’re out there pounding the pavements. Find a local club near you, hook up with some friends or simply go it alone. With a low barrier to entry, all you really need to do is lace up your shoes and get moving.

Take Up Golf

Golf is a fantastic sport to try in springtime. The weather is warm but not too hot and the wind doesn’t tend to be too strong, creating the perfect conditions for golfers to do their thing. For those that are new to golf, it’s always advisable to take some lessons before heading out on the course. Learning to swing a club correctly and how to connect with the ball properly will ensure that you have more fun when you finally head out on the course and that you have some basic skills that you can build on moving forward.

Play Tennis

Whether you play at your local public park or join your nearest tennis club, this is a great way to get a solid cardio and upper body workout in. Although tennis is mostly an individual sport, it is also very social. Players tend to get together after a match to hang out and being part of a club is a great way to meet new people in your area. Picking up the basics is quite straightforward and the rules are not overly complicated. Hit The Surf

Anyone living near the coast in Australia has likely been exposed to surfing at some point in their lives. Surfing is not only heaps of fun but it also is an incredible full-body workout. There are many different ways that you can play in the surf, from riding the waves on a long or shortboard to bodyboarding, you can try stand-up paddleboarding, bodysurf or even go surf kayaking. Being a competent and confident swimmer is crucial and you should always check the conditions to ensure you are not venturing out in surf that is beyond your ability level.
