6 Steps to Assemble a Bed Frame

You’ve finally decided to upgrade your mattress and want a new bed frame for it. So, what are the next steps? First and foremost, you need to decide whether you’re going to assemble it or have it delivered or hire furniture assembly services in Melbourne. There is no “right” way of choosing—one option is certainly better than another and only you know what best fits your personality.

•   Determine the number of posts and slats needed

You will need two posts that each support four slats, plus two additional posts that support the headboard and footboard. Make sure to allow 6 inches between each post so that the slats can expand and contract from heat variations.

•   Place heads

Place the head of your bed on the floor, with its foot end resting on a sturdy wooden platform or box. The head needs to be placed high enough that it doesn’t fall over when you add the legs. This will keep the legs from wobbling and will ensure that your headboard is level in relation to the floor.

•   Attach the legs

Attach one leg to each side of the bed frame by inserting screws through holes in the legs and into holes in the bed frame. Be sure that you use screws that match your screwdriver so they don’t strip out easily. Repeat this step with all four legs.Lift one leg off of its platform and place it against the wall (or another solid structure). Position it so that it doesn’t hang over the edge of your bed frame; otherwise, it can fall over and hit you while you sleep!

Place one leg at a time onto your bed frame until all four legs are in place. Make sure that they’re evenly spaced apart along each side of your bed frame (usually 12 inches apart), as well as evenly spaced across from each other in between each side’s legs (usually 18 inches apart).

•   Attach the headboard

Measure the length and width of your bed frame and add 1 inch to each measurement to allow for the headboard height and footboard.Find the center of one side of the bed frame and mark it with a pencil or ruler. Repeat on the opposite side of the bed frame.The headboard is attached by using bolts and washers on either end of a piece of wood (the top or bottom) and screwing them into place through holes in your headboard, which you’ve already built. Position your headboard boards at an angle relative to your bed frame so that they meet at a right angle when you attach them with screws.

•   Align the Stiles and Rails

Place one end of each rail onto a stile, aligning it with its corresponding notch. Make sure you’re putting them in the right spot! If you don’t have any rails, it’s fine to use only one rail from each side.Place each crossbar at a rail, then slide them into place along their length until they lock in place.Using a straightedge, draw a line connecting these two marks, creating a straight edge on both sides of your frame. Draw another line across this first line, providing an extra measure of safety in case you need to cut away material later on.

•   Install bedding and mattress

The process of assembling a bed frame is straightforward and simple. The first step is to select the headboard, which is placed on top of the footboard. Then, place slats into place around the mattress to create a box-like shape. Next, secure screws through holes in each individual slat into place at both ends of each slat. Last but not least, attach the legs to each end of your frame using screws and bolts or staples.
