6 Tips To Know When Studying For The LSAT

After having made it through years of public school and college, you are wondering when the seemingly endless stream of tests, quizzes, and exams will end. If you are wanting to go on to law school and become an attorney, don’t expect there to be an end to your knowledge being tested about this and that anytime soon. In fact, you are probably well into your preparations for taking the LSAT, which will determine if you do indeed get into law school. But to make sure you ace this test and move one step closer to being a personal injury attorney or one who specializes in another area of law, keep these six tips in mind as you study day and night for this test.

Cramming Won’t Work

Unlike some tests you had in high school and college where you studied all night and figured cramming would get you a good grade, this strategy won’t work with the LSAT. Instead, it is your critical thinking and evaluation skills that will be the top priority, not simply how much information you can remember.

Create a Study Schedule

To successfully pass the LSAT, you will need to have a regular study schedule where you study by yourself. As with anything else in life, practice makes perfect. Therefore, start studying for the LSAT as soon as you can before the date of the actual test. While some people start about three months ahead, others start studying one year prior to the actual test. Whatever your strategy, allot four to six hours per day to study.

Use an LSAT Prep Course

Although it can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars, an LSAT prep course can mean the difference between passing or failing. Filled with video lectures, study plans, and much more, investing in an LSAT prep course is often well worth the money that is spent.

Shore Up Your Weaknesses

Since the LSAT focuses largely on logic and writing, shore up any weaknesses you have in these two areas. While you can still pass by not being strong in one of these, doing poorly on both could result in a failing score.

Learn Time Management

Being a timed test, the LSAT puts a priority on how many questions you are able to answer. Therefore, while prepping for the test, learn to become excellent at time management. To do so, time yourself during study sessions to see how many questions you can answer without being rushed. If there is one thing you don’t want to do on the LSAT, it is to leave numerous questions unanswered.

Plan for Test Day

When the big day finally arrives and you have studied all you can for the LSAT, make sure you have everything planned out as much as possible. To do so, give this some serious thought during your study sessions. From what time you will wake up to making sure you arrive at the test center in plenty of time, having a well-organized plan of action on test day will keep you relaxed and ready to take this crucial exam.

By being proactive in your studying for the LSAT, you will no doubt get a jump on others who will inevitably wait until the last minute, increasing the odds you will be accepted into law school.
