6 Ways to Speed Your Relocation Process

With so much to do and so little time, it is imperative that you plan your move, but how?

Moving is stressful enough without the hassle of rushing around at the last minute to arrange everything. By arranging your removalist companies and movers in advance, you can avoid the last-minute stress and help your move smoothly.

1. Start Early

Don’t start any sooner than you have to; however, give yourself ample time to complete everything. You’ll likely feel rushed when you’re trying to finish up all the loose ends before the big day and rushing things can lead to mistakes or missed details.

Prepare early for any loose ends you need to tie up before moving so you have time for contingency plans if needed. Take advantage of all those extra hours you have by starting to pack early. You’ll have plenty of time to decide what goes where, and there will be less chance that you’ll forget something important. Plus, it will give you time to work out any kinks in your system without being under pressure to finish packing up all at once.

Before packing, take photographs or videos of everything you want to take with you. That way, if something gets damaged or lost, it will be easier to prove what it was and how much it’s worth.

2. Create an Itinerary

If you have a lot of things to do when relocating, try making an itinerary that covers everything you need to do before moving day. You’ll know what needs to be done each day and how much time it will take. Keep this updated as you cross out each task and check off items from your list. That way, you can spend less time worrying about the remaining items and more time actually completing them. You may also consider checking out areaguides.net if you still have items needed in your agenda of relocating.

3. Pack Strategically

Packing is the most labour-intensive aspect of moving, so save yourself some trouble by packing strategically. First, decide what essential items and which can stay with friends or family members until you’re settled in your new home. Then box up your essentials first and pack them away in small boxes that are easy to move around if needed.

4. Get Rid of Things You Don’t Need

As part of the planning process, ensure that you have thoroughly gone through all of your belongings and gotten rid of anything that you no longer need or use. If it is not something you use or will ever use again, get rid of it. There is no reason to spend hours packing things up and transporting them to another home if they will never be used again.

You might be tempted to keep everything that’s not nailed down when you’re moving, but this could create a lot of extra work for yourself. Instead, be ruthless about cutting down on the amount of stuff you’re taking with you. Take everything important or valuable – and only that – while leaving the rest behind.

5. Inform Everyone About Your Change of Address

When relocating, you may be moving to another state or even another country. Regardless of the distance, you will still need to update your address with the post office and banks.

If you’re changing your address for a new job, inform your employer and payroll department as soon as possible. This will allow them to pay you at your new address. Also, inform any banks that you bank with, so they can update their records and send statements to your new address.

Moving house is hectic enough without having to deal with the added stress of chasing a missing statement or payment. By letting people know well in advance, you’ll avoid missing payments, jeopardising bills and having credit card payments taken out of the wrong account. You can use a change of address checklist to never miss out on any important people you need to inform.

6. Notify the Utility Companies

If you are moving within the next month or so, then it is recommended that you contact all of the utility companies as soon as possible. This is so they can be aware of your change and can get the new service connected before your original service has been disconnected. Make sure that you include the utility companies at the top of your change of address checklist.

If you are moving further away, it is always best to give at least 2 weeks notice. You will find this information on utility providers’ websites, where they have sections on moving home.

Conclusion

When you’re relocating to a new place, it’s essential to be clear about what you need to do. This will help you stay on top of every process in your relocation and ensure that you have a safe and smooth move. The above are some of the essential relocation things you need to do to fasten your relocation.
