7 Tricks to Become the Best and Calmest Version of Yourself Right Now

It is no secret that it has been an incredibly stressful year so far. A lot has happened; we faced pandemic, the economy is shaking, and this can make us feel overwhelmed sometimes. But no panic, there are some useful tips I can give you to stay calm and be able to take time to put things into perspective. After all, stress is a normal physical reaction of our body when it faces stressors, and deep inside yourself, you know this. One thing is being aware of the adverse effects that things surrounding us can have, and another completely different thing is to be able to control them. Here is where I am going to help you. We are going to take a look at some small changes that you can implement in your daily routine to feel more balanced and to have more control over your life. After all, control is the main remedy against stress because unexpected events that are outside of our comfort zone or that we have no control over, are the main factors that lead to stress and anxiety. Are you ready for some change in your life?

How are we going to succeed in this gigantic task?

1. Take time for yourself:

Whether you are living with your family, or you are isolated, there are simple ways to relieve stress at home. You can indulge in reading, meditating, taking a hot bath, or listening to the music of your choice. All these activities will have a relaxing effect and will constitute a boost for your mental.

2. Learn to put things into perspective

Under stress, it is not uncommon that we dramatize everyday situations and that our mental management capacity is compromised. In this case, it is essential to step back and draw new ideas by listening to the opinion of other people.

3. Start playing sports

It is essential to exercise, not only to have good health but also to boost our hormones of happiness. But be careful, don’t stress your body by doing too much all at once. If you are not a great sportsman, increase your efforts progressively. At first, 30 minutes a day is more than enough. The sport you practice is your choice since it is a personal choice here, and there is no wrong choice here. The only bad option, in this case, would be to procrastinate and stay on your couch.

4. Make plans

It is vital to get away from your everyday life from time to time, and if it is not possible to escape physically, it is always possible to evade spiritually. The best way is to make plans, think and organize, for example, your next vacation or find yourself a new hobby. Have you tried meditation or yoga?

5. Plan your activities

A schedule will allow you to have more control over your daily life and limit the possibility of being faced with unforeseen and, therefore, stressful situations. Start your day by planning your day and take control of your life.

6. Take care of your diet

Now that we are on the right track, it is just as important to take care of our diet. Romans used to say “mens sana in corpore sanem,” which means a healthy mind in a healthy body.

We are going to leave out fatty and ultra-processed foods. Pizza, crisps, burgers, and other fast foods contain a lot of fat and sugar, which will boost your levels of stress hormones like cortisol. You will do better, on the contrary, to base your diet on foods with a high level of tryptophan such as salmon, chicken, lentils, spinach, milk, nuts, or seeds. Just search on Google, and you will see that this list is very long and full of foods you love. Why am I talking about tryptophan? Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that our body needs for the production of serotonin, and serotonin is our happiness hormone.

7. Start your day with a balanced breakfast

Now that we are already talking about your diet, there is one crucial point you can’t miss: your breakfast.

The next morning it will be essential to fill up with healthy nutrients so that your body can face its day full of energy. The foods of choice for lunch are milk, water, yogurt, oats, and fruit.

Now it’s time for you to free your mind by doing something you really love in life. Remember, take some time for yourself every day!
