8 Benefits of Gas Furnaces Over Electric Furnaces

Gas furnaces are becoming more popular than electric furnaces and for a good reason. Not only do gas furnaces run cleaner and quieter, but they also come equipped with a lot of benefits that make them the better option. Check out here to learn eight good reasons why you should consider installing gas furnaces over electric furnaces in your home today.

Gas Furnaces are Cost-Effective

Gas furnaces are cheaper to run than electric furnaces. For example, let’s say that you have an average-sized three-bedroom house about 1,500 square feet in size with gas furnaces. A typical electric bill for this same house would cost around $100 per month to heat it all winter long, but the same home with gas furnaces would only cost about $60 per month to heat up all winter long. So, in this case, the gas furnaces would be cheaper to run by 40%.

Gas Furnaces are More Efficient

Gas furnaces are more efficient than electric furnaces, meaning they will heat your home faster and use less energy in the process. For example, let’s say you have electric furnaces in your home that are 80% efficient. This means that for every dollar you spend on electricity to heat your home, only 80 cents of that dollar will turn into heat in your home. The other 20 cents of that dollar will be lost as waste energy, which means it just leaves the HVAC unit and goes out into the environment uselessly. On the other hand, gas furnaces are typically 85% to 95% efficient, meaning more than 90 cents of every dollar you spend on fuel for them will turn into heat in your home. So, in this case, the gas furnaces would be more efficient by 5% to 15%.

Gas Furnaces are Quieter

Gas furnaces are much quieter than electric furnaces. Electric furnaces typically come with a blower fan that is one of the noisiest parts of the whole heating system, and even if you have a quiet indoor unit on your electric furnaces, it just can’t stand up to the noise that comes from an outdoor gas furnace. If you live in a condo or an apartment building where noise is a problem, gas furnaces are the best choice for you because they are significantly quieter than electric furnaces.

Gas Furnaces Operate More Smoothly

Gas furnaces have no on/off cycling, which means there is much less fluctuation in the heat inside your home when using gas furnaces. Electric furnaces will turn on and off at certain times of the day, so if you keep your thermostat set to a constant temperature all day, you will most likely see a fluctuation of 10 degrees or more in your home’s temperature over a day. On the other hand, gas furnaces have continuous warming throughout the day so that you can set your thermostat to a constant temperature. It will stay at that temperature with absolutely no cycling on/off whatsoever.

Gas Furnaces are Safer

Gas furnaces are safer to run than electric furnaces. Electric furnaces need a lot of electricity at certain points of the running cycle that can be extremely dangerous for anyone who has not been adequately trained on how to handle them. This means that it is essential to have an electric bill from an electrician that is up to date and shows proof of proper training before installing electric furnaces. However, gas furnaces are entirely safe to run, so if you have anyone living in your home who isn’t very experienced with appliances or electricity at all, then gas furnaces are the best option for you.

Gas Furnaces are More Durable

Gas furnaces are much more durable than electric furnaces. Electric furnaces have a lot of small moving parts inside them that can easily break down and need repair or replacement every 4 to 5 years on average, which means they will also require professional assistance to perform those repairs. On the other hand, gas furnaces have virtually no moving parts inside them, so that they will last for long with no problems at all. This means that you will only need to call a professional for gas furnaces repair once during the lifetime of your furnace, while you would need to call a professional for electric furnace repair twice during the lifetime of your furnace.

Gas Furnaces are More Environmentally Friendly

Gas furnaces are much more environmentally friendly than electric furnaces. Electric furnaces create a lot of wasted energy in heat that leaves the furnace and uselessly goes out into the environment. On the other hand, gas furnaces convert all of the fuel they use into heat, so no waste energy is created. This means that if you are looking to be more environmentally friendly, gas furnaces are the best option.

They Increase Home Value

Another significant advantage to having gas furnaces over an electric furnace is that they are much more likely to increase the value of your home. Many people are starting to invest money into renewable energy sources, so if you have gas furnaces installed in your home, it shows that you are trying to help the environment by being less wasteful with your energy. This will increase the value of your home if you decide to sell it in the future.

Conclusion

There are many reasons to choose a gas furnace over an electric furnace for your Apple Valley HVAC system, and the seven reasons listed above are just some of the most important ones. Suppose you are looking for a more efficient, quieter, smoother-operating, safer, more durable, and more environmentally friendly heating system for your home. In that case.
