A Beginner’s Guide to WordPress Maintenance

Do you have a WordPress account? Are you doing your best to come up with great content ideas but not getting enough followers on your page? The answer to this is in whether you have optimized your account or not.

Optimizing a WordPress account involves carrying out all the maintenance activities that help the page to run at its best and fastest possible speed. WordPress maintenance involves a couple of activities and some of those are listed below. Read on to find out what they are and how they might help you run your page better.

Always Use the Latest Version of WordPress

WordPress frequently updates their website by adding newer and smarter features. So, if you run a page on WordPress it is necessary that you check the homepage for the latest updates and newest tools that are available to you. The older versions become obsolete as newer ones are launched. So, they may malfunction and cause trouble for the person running the page as well readers. Hence, the first step in WordPress maintenance is to make sure that your page is always updated to the latest version and is running without glitches.

Make Your Blog Free of Spam Comments

Too many spam comments may be off putting for readers. So, getting rid of them helps give your readers a better experience on your blog. The database of your blog might be full of comments which have been marked as spam. While carrying out your WordPress maintenance you must sift through these and delete the spam comments and restore those which may have been wrongly marked as spam.

If you do not do this then all of the comments marked as spam will be deleted after a certain period of time and you may lose some genuine comments in the process. A spam free blog is easier and cleaner to read which is the kind of blog you as a blogger should be creating for your readers.

Check the Links in Your Posts

Links to external citations on your blog must not be dead i.e. they must not lead to an ‘Error 404’ page when someone clicks on them. You must carry out a links check during the process of your WordPress maintenance to find out all the dead links. If you find dead links, you must then change them to add links which are properly running. You may add the same link again but this time it must be copied correctly or you can add new links as well.

Remember to Back Up Your Content

Your content is precious to you so you must make sure that it is not lost at any cost. To ensure that, do not forget to back up your content. You can back it up to your device or you can also use the WordPress server host to store your content. You must schedule a backup every three months or you can have a more frequent backing up schedule if you update you post a lot on your blog.

To Conclude

Other than creating new content, running a WordPress page also involves making sure that those who visit your page also keep coming back to it and refer your blog to others who might be interested in the topics you post about. WordPress maintenance helps you give your readers a better experience when they interact with your blog. So, as a creator it is one of your major duties to run a WordPress maintenance and make sure that your readers can have a memorable experience when they visit your page.
