A Complete Guide to Pet Cremation.

The loss of a pet is as heartbreaking as a beloved close friend. After all, pets are our friends who are always there for us. Their loss can feel very overwhelming and tragic. For this purpose, most people hold funerals and burials for their pets to get closure. However, pet cremation has gained a lot of popularity in recent years.

What Is Pet Cremation?

Per cremation is the same as human cremation. The body of the pet is incinerated using 1400 to 1800 Fahrenheit heat. The process takes two to three hours at maximum. If any metal (for example, stunts in the body of a pet who went through surgery) is found, it is separated from the remains.

Types OfPet Cremation Services.

If you are looking for pet cremation, you need to know the three types of pet cremations.

  •     Individual

In Individual cremation, your pet is cremated separately. The ashes are collected and delivered to the client. Most owners opt for this type of service when they wish to take the ashes with them and keep them for sentimental purposes.

  •     Communal

In a communal cremation, several pets are cremated together. Mostly, the ashes are mixed up with one another. This is suitable for owners who do not plan to take ashes back with them.

  •     Partitioned

In partitioned cremation, several pets are cremated together but there are separators between pets to ensure that the ashes do not get mixed up.

All these services take an equal amount of time. Some companies offer other services such as providing a paw imprint to the owner or humanly euthanizing animals in severe pain.

Is Pet Cremation Expensive?

The most commonly asked question from vets is if pet cremation is expensive. The answer is a cliché. “It depends”

There are several deciding factors when it comes to pricing per cremation service. Usually,

Dog cremation costs between $50 to $300. For euthanizing, an additional $150-$200 might be charged.

Cat cremation costs between $50 to $150. For humanly euthanizing, an additional $30 to $70 might be charged.

Horse cremation is the most expensive of all. The cost varies between $600 to $1200. For euthanizing, an additional $170 to $250 might be charged. Prices might vary depending on the size of the horse as well.

Apart from company-to-company variation, the following factors also decide the pricing of your pet’s cremation.

  • Pet size and weight.

The more the pet weighs and the bigger the pet is in size, the more you will be charged.

  • Pet’s breed.

Pets breeds make a little difference when you’re billed but we are naming all cost-deciding factors so you are aware of all hidden charges beforehand.

  • Services chosen.

The major price deciding factor is the type of service chosen. Individual services are the most expensive varying from $90 to $260 while collective or communal services vary from $50 to $150.

  •     The type of pet.

As discussed before, the prices vary depending on the type of pet as well. You will be charged differently if you are cremating your cat or dog.
