Become a High Achiever with These 7 Study Tips

Higher education, for many, can feel like a time of immense pressure. It’s understandable to expect a lot from yourself when you want to pursue a qualification that could determine the rest of your future. However, putting yourself under excess stress will not lead you to the results you want. If you would like to see excellent results and for your studying to pay off, bear in mind some of these tips designed to help you become a high achiever.

Adopt a Growth Mindset

When people assume that they are unable to learn something new, they are almost definitely correct. This is not because they have some special insight that allows them to instantly identify areas where they’ll succeed and where they’ll fail, but rather that they have already given up. A growth mindset is one where you accept that you may not know something yet, but that you have the capacity to learn. Instead of limiting yourself to the notion that your current intellectual abilities are fixed, you can open your mind to the possibility of growing and developing. This is what brains are made to do, after all.

Choose the Right Program

If you are studying a subject that you simply can’t become interested in, you will find it much more of a challenge. To truly make the most of your studies, choose a program that fits your future goals and your current interests. For example, if you are both creative and interested in new technology, a degree digital marketing based could be ideal for you. A subject that plays to your strengths will give you challenges without discouraging you completely. Even if it isn’t immediately straightforward, you should find yourself curious to learn more.

Outline Your Priorities

Studying for the sake of studying is not how most high achievers go about it. Instead, they define their goals and figure out the steps they must take in order to reach them. You will find it impossible to achieve your aims if you don’t clarify what they are first. Something as simple as writing out a list of what you want your future to look like can make a huge difference. Consider how your studies influence this and what you need to do now to enjoy the future you want.

Figure Out How You Think

Knowing how your own mind works can give you many helpful insights into how you should feed yourself new information. For example, if you struggle to absorb what you hear in a lecture, try recording it and then transcribing it later for clearer notes. When you understand how your mind likes to take in information, you can work out appropriate ways to study that are actually effective for you.

Follow a Realistic Routine

When trying to improve their studies, many people attempt to reconfigure their daily routines in order to kickstart greater discipline and higher levels of focus. While the intention is positive, the results don’t tend to be as good. This is because drastically changing your entire routine is not sustainable. Instead, find small and incremental ways to adapt your routine to be more effective. This might mean changing the times you sleep or limiting your distractions. Don’t put pressure on yourself to suddenly become a different person – this will most likely be a temporary fix.

Try Alternative Approaches

If you are truly struggling with your studies and your current methods aren’t working, it’s time to rethink your strategies and try a new approach. A great way to do this is to alleviate any pressure you might feel as an intermediate or advanced learner and instead think of yourself as a beginner. This will allow you the mental space to explore the topic more freely and, therefore, more successfully.

Make Use of Support

There is no shame in needing the help of others when pursuing your goals. If your teachers have office hours, attend them. If your classmates have a study group, join it. Students can suffer from poor mental health as a result of the pressure, so make sure to seek expert medical help. Know when to accept outside help and when to be independent.

Being a high achiever isn’t reserved only for those who have a natural aptitude. If you are able to focus, define your priorities, and stay consistent, there is no reason you can’t excel. Anyone with the willingness to persist and learn can add to their skills and achieve their academic goals.
