Benefits of Learning Geometry

Geometry is a discipline of Mathematics concerned with the size, shape, and position of two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes and figures. Geometry is a Greek term that means “measurement.” From kindergarten to 12th grade, geometry is a part of every student’s curriculum, and it continues through college and postgraduate studies. Because most schools adopt a spiralling curriculum, students revisit basic ideas throughout the grades.

Geometry classes in school help students improve spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills. Geometry is intertwined with a variety of other maths concepts, particularly measurement. Lines and segments, angle, shapes and solids, and triangles are the main ideas in geometry.

The geometric focus in early learning tends to be on shapes and solids. After that, students  study the properties and relationships of shapes and solids. Problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, transformations, symmetry, and spatial reasoning will all be introduced to them gradually.

Geometrical shapes help us to understand the locations of planets and stars. The shape of our planets is spherical, and the orbits have an oval shape. Geometry allows many significant astronomical computations and discoveries to be accomplished. Geometry was initially created to calculate the velocity, area, volume, and other dimensions of celestial bodies. The study of these celestial bodies is astronomy, and geometry aids in determining their scope and location in the universe.

Geometry in Science and Technology

Some professions use geometry to execute their jobs accurately. Geometric imaging is beneficial to disciplines such as medicine. For example, MRIs and CT scans are utilized for both surgical assistance and medical diagnosis. These methods help doctors to do their work in a more efficient, safe, and straightforward manner. Furthermore, geometric concepts are also widely applied in computer imaging, which is used for designing & generating video games, animation, and other similar work. Geometry is used for mapping land surfaces, as well.

Other Activities Using Geometry

Surprisingly, mathematics is used extensively in the culinary arts.  Food preparation can be made easier using instruments like measuring cups, measuring spoons, and scales. However, a basic understanding of measurement, fractions, and geometry is required when cooking and baking. To maximize efficiency and visual appeal, use geometry to establish how shapes and figures fit together. The fundamentals of house design are points, lines, types of angles, curves, two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, volumes, and proportions. Also, quilting involves geometry to maintain symmetry and visual beauty. Therefore, we can conclude that things would have been challenging in day-to-day living and numerous technological domains, without using geometry.
