Bootstrap Detailed Guide: How to Set Up and Use Bootstrap

Bootstrap is one of the most effective tools to design fully responsive websites. Using bootstrap your website can be seen on multiple platforms perfectly on all types of devices.

Here we bring you a quick guide with the essential questions you should know to take advantage of its benefits.

What is Bootstrap

It is a framework originally designed by Twitter engineers for this social network, precisely with the aim of generating an environment that had better adaptation and compatibility. Although since 2011, the project was released as open-source and today millions of sites, using the NASA page, the most important social networks, government platforms, and all kinds of pages use this system.

Its tools allow you to design from grids to forms, menus, buttons, and even entire websites. And if today it has become very popular worldwide, it is also because it is very easy to install and use, and it can also be adapted to CMS’s and all kinds of pages, even if they have already been developed.

You can also use bootstrap templates. One of the main characteristics of the Bootstrap Templates is to allow the adaptation of the page to be carried out according to the type of device used that is insane.

12 Column System

Its 12 column system allows you to easily configure content for all kinds of objectives.

For example, from any section of your website, you can easily indicate how many columns you want it to cover, depending on the type of user screen. In this way, a header could span 3 – 6 – 3 columns on desktop sites (or what would be equivalent to a three-column distribution of 25% – 50% – 25%, with the center portion twice the size of sides), and instead 12 – 12 –12 on mobile devices (the 3 elements at full-screen width).

Why You Should Use Bootstrap

Bootstrap is a good way to save time in the development of a website since its set of tools includes what is necessary to be able to responsively configure any web part.

Unlike other frameworks, Bootstrap has reached such a level of importance, that it currently enjoys a significant developer base, which keeps it not only constantly updated, but also at the global forefront, as a cutting-edge tool for adjusting itself ideal for current needs and technologies.

In addition to that there is an extensive community, and therefore multiple documents, guides, and tutorials to be able to fully master any of its functions with ease.

Which Version Of Bootstrap Should I Use?

The most recommended is to always use the latest stable version of Bootstrap, in this case, version 4 (.13). This version came in 2018 after Bootstrap 3 was the main reference in the field for many years.

Bootstrap 4 still requires Popper and jQuery for some of their functions too (they can easily be invoked).

Although this will surely change in early 2020, since Bootstrap 5 is already in development, which has a list of more than 200 improvements, highlighting the fact that it will no longer be necessary to use Jquery (an equivalent will be integrated); with the aim of favoring environment purely in Javascript.

Install Bootstrap Via Source File

There are two main ways to install Bootstrap:

  • Via Content Distribution Network (CDN)
  • This is the easiest way. You will simply have to call the Bootstrap and Jquery libraries from the code.

Install Bootstrap via source file

By entering getbootstrap.com, you will always have the latest stable version available for download. This is another way to install full Bootstrap and add it to your website. Incorporating the CSS and js files in the respective libraries of your site. Unless you only want Bootstrap for the CSS, you will have to call the jQuery and Popper libraries as well; either via CDN as in the previous step, or you can also download the full versions from the respective official pages of both systems.

If you use WordPress, the files will have to be registered using the hook wp_enqueue_scripts inside the file functions.php.

In this sense, the most practical thing is to include the minified files, which are the ones that weigh the least (min.css and min.js); in addition to the jQuery and Popper scripts if you are going to use Bootstrap for more than just CSS.

How to use Bootstrap

Another reason why photography marketing is being used widely and well cared for is that it has established itself as one of the most efficient ways to generate greater trust with your potential and existing clients.

In fact, recent study shows that around 60% of consumers who conduct an online search prefer to contact businesses that promote themselves with an image.

This, of course, applies to the corporate image of your business, from showing your facilities, to also your staff, or the profile of your executives, which are elements that can contribute to providing greater confidence in your business; and even more if this is enriched with quality photographs.

It should be noted in such cases, the columns that do not fit in the row space are shifted down. But for example, if you would like that in the case of this type of medium screens, block 4 is not visible, so as not to break the tuning, even if you have fewer visible elements, it can also be done, generating more precise instructions in the CSS class.

In this case, we could use an element to hide that column, using the class d-block d-MD-none d-lg-block if the intention is to hide a column only in medium-size screens; and instead, if our intention was to hide the column, also on all screens smaller than medium size, we would use the element d-none d-LG-block (or what was a hidden-MD-down in Bootstrap 3).

Or, if on the contrary, the objective was to show a column, only on screens of a certain size, we could use the visible element, which could be something liked-none d-MD-block d-LG-none, continuing with the same example of settings on medium-sized screens.

As you can see, the possibilities with Bootstrap are quite wide and allow you to configure any detail in detail, for example, changing the order of the elements, defining exact sizes to change the settings, adding borders, and other CSS elements, etc.

It is a powerful tool and one that today has become essential in the development of efficient, responsive web pages with the ability to adapt to our times in an ideal way.
