Can You Major In Music With No Experience?

Yes, and no! It depends. Oops! Please follow along. Some private colleges and universities can allow you to start off as a beginner in music school. That means you have a shot at becoming the musical genius you’ve always dreamed to be even without prior experience. We all have to start somewhere, right?

Why no? Because you would need to audition before admission to most Universities for a music major. Let’s suppose you intend to major in a specific instrument. How would you make it past an audition without prior knowledge of how to play the instrument? In short, you need to have some experience in the field you intend to pursue. But that’s not all. 

It also depends on the music major you plan to take. Some music programs don’t call for auditions. You can still opt for music school programs where you can take up classes to improve your aptitude for what you intend to later pursue. 

Experience Isn’t Everything

Some of us have two left feet. But does that keep up from hitting the dance floor? We do it anyway, but of course, not as part of the main event. We are the event! Ok, that’s a bit of a stretch.
