Cash Myricks – Reasons Jose Will Lead Spurs to The Title

This time last year I was sat with my colleague Cash Myricks, listening to the dreaded news that Mauricio Pochettino, best Spurs manager in my lifetime was being fired, and Jose Mourinho was set to take over. I shan’t repeat what I said on that dark day, and to be honest my hatred for Mourinho was never higher. Football however, is a fickle beast and here I sit just a year on, hating Mourinho slightly less, but with genuine optimism as to what will happen this season. My belief, is that Spurs will launch a big title bid this season, and I have a feeling that they just might do it, here is why.

Jose Wins

I’m not superstitious and whilst I am aware of the Jose ‘second season’ thing, I don’t necessarily buy it. What I do by however, is that this is a man who knows exactly how to win, and he has proven so at every club which he has worked. This is why at the very least, Spurs have a big chance of doing the unthinkable.

Smart Purchases

Spurs have brought many players in this season but they have been smart transfers which don’t carry the risk which some others can. For example we have brought in Hojberg and Doherty, who both already know this league very well, the same can be said for Bale and Joe Hart. The only slight risks would be Vinicius, who has been brought in as a back up, and Regulion, who already looks like he has settled in straight away. Smart transfers, necessary transfers and now there is plenty of competition for places.

Front Three

Not only are Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son in the prime of their careers right now, with a formidable partnership, Spurs have added world class talent Gareth Bale to that mix. Naturally a lot depends on how fit the players are, but that has the potential to be a devastating front three which will cause defenses to have nightmares.

Quality of the Competition

Liverpool looked set to do well again this year but with no fans in the stadium and Van Dijk looking to miss most of the season, they will struggle. Chelsea are very talented but still in transition, City hav defensive woes and Manchester United still aren’t completely convincing. All told this presents a great opportunity for Tottenham to go on and win this title, for the first time in the club’s history.

Injuries are much less of a concern because of the depth of the squad which we have, and the desire which that Champions League lost would have brought about will certainly help many of the players. I am certainly being optimistic here but I think that this could be the best chance that Spurs will have for a very long time to come. What do you guys make of this? Can the Lilywhites create history, or am I just being hopelessly ambitious as a fan?
