Oxford University has a very renowned and facilitated vaccine development laboratory. The name behind this groundbreaking vaccine is Sara Gilbert. The scientist was successful in making a vaccine against the flu pandemic spread back in the early twenties. This time, the world looked up to her for the vaccine against Coronavirus, and she did not let us down. Russia was working on a more or less similar vaccine called Sputnik 5, and China was working on CoronaVac. Sinovac was the developer of the Chinese vaccine. Vaccine formulation

Covishield is the business name of the Oxford vaccine. The original generic of the vaccine is ChadOx 19 that indicates the origin of the vaccine sources. Usually, the vaccines are live Atenueted where we use the live but weak viruses to produce immunity against the organism. The other InventHelp type is the killed vaccine, where we use inactivated but antigenic viruses to develop immunity. These two are the most common types of vaccine. Other than these, there are vector vaccines where we use one organism to carry the genes of other viruses inside the body and produce an immune response. Chadox vaccine uses the genes of adenovirus, which is a less virulent family member of Coronavirus. As a vector, we used the chimpanzee cell line. Humans resemble a chimpanzee cell line, so it will help avoid any significant antigenic hypersensitivity or cross-reaction.

After oxford got recognition and the world-famous peer-reviewed journals like PubMed and lancet declared the vaccine is safe, there were no holdbacks. Oxford tied up with the famous pharmaceutical AstraZeneca to start mass production. The Serum Institute of India is also working to produce billions of doses of covishield to ensure everyone on this planet gets a dose of the vaccine.

Usually, vaccines do not come cheap at all. By now, you already understand that developing a vaccine is a mammoth task: research, instruments, and genetic material cost billions of dollars.
