The FSSAI (food standards and safety authority) of India is the highest authority that has been responsible for supervising and managing food safety in India. FSSAI made it mandatory for food business owners to obtain their FSSAI food license in Delhi online or offline or from their state.
Major confusion among the FBOs or the managing business authorities is the license that the businessperson needs to obtain. FSSAI has some science-based standards for this. It regulates the manufacturing, storage, sales, distributors and import to ensure the availability of secure and safe wholesome food all over India.
FSSAI has three major categories of FSSAI food licenses that would be:
- Basic registration
- State license
- Central license

FSSAI Basic registration license
The food business owners having a petty manufacturing unit, stall, home chiefs or any small-scale food-producing unit, storage unit, transporters, marketers, retailers, distributors, etc. are need to have the FSSAI registration in delhi. In addition, businesses having turnover up to 12 Lakh need to done the registration under FSSAI.
Basic documents required for basic registration for FSSAI
- Declaration form
- Copy of property owner or business premises or rent agreement
- Authority letter
- License of the food safety management system or its planning
- Electricity or water bill of the business premises
- Form 10 for the designation of a person by the company with the board resolution
- ID proof of proprietor or partners or directors like voter ID card
FSSAI State license
However, food business owners having small to medium-sized manufacturing units, transporters, marketers, retailers, distributors, etc., are required to have the FSSAI state license. In addition, businesses with a turnover of more than 12 Lakh annually must obtain state licenses from the respective state of their business premises.
Documents required for obtaining state license under FSSAI
- List of all the owners, partners, and executive members of the business with their complete contact details, phone number,
- Latest passport-sized photograph of the applicant
- ID proof
- PAN card
- A copy of the rental agreement or property-owned papers
- Partnership deed
- NOC from the manufacturer for distributing business
- E-CODE issued by DGFT
- Form 9 nomination of persons by the company
FSSAI Central license
However, importers, food export license owners, larger manufacturers, operators in the central government agencies, seaports, airports, etc. are needed to obtain a central food license. The central government issues the central license. Business units having a turnover of more than 20 crores annually need to have a central license.
