Our beds are one of the most important pieces of furniture in our homes. Having a comfortable bed is something that cannot be compromised. According to the different people in your family, you might need to consider different kinds of beds. Whether it’s a single bed, a king-size bed, or a bunk bed, it might fit your household needs perfectly. If you have kids, you might have to share one room between them, it is only natural that you must have considered bunk beds for them at one point. However, it’s a common misconception that bunk beds come in just one size. In fact, there are different bunk beds for different sizes, which we will go over in the blog below, or you can read this post here.

What Size Are Bunk Beds?

Bunk beds are perfect for anyone – children, teens, or adults. Bunk beds may be arranged in a variety of ways to best suit the available space and satisfy storage requirements. The dimensions of the top and bottom bunks of a bunk bed may also differ. Twin or twin XL mattresses are often seen in top bunk beds. Mattresses up top might be full, queen, or king size. A standard, single, as well as a twin bunk bed is around 75 inches by 39 inches by 65 inches. There are bunk beds of various sizes. A full-sized bunk bed or double bunk bed is 75 inches by 54 inches by 65 inches. A Queen bunk bed is 80 inches by 60 inches by 65 inches. A King bunk bed measures 80 in. by 76 in. by 51.5 in. Keep in mind that a bunk bed marked “King” often means that the lower bunk is the size of a king bed and the top bunk is a twin. Rarely does the top bunk have a bed that is bigger than a full-size bed.

Different Bunk Bed Sizes

  • Standard Bunk Bed: A standard, traditional, or twin bunk bed is 39 x 70 inches and is made for twin mattresses. The bunk bed’s overall height may range from 63 to 65 inches in height, depending on the design of the frame. A conventional bunk bed is sometimes known as a single-over-single bed. Given that twin-sized mattresses were previously made with children in mind, this kind of bunk bed is appropriate for two kids who are in the kindergarten to elementary school age range. There may sometimes be a variant where the bottom bunk bed is at a perpendicular angle rather than the top bunk, depending on the manufacturer. Depending on the dimensions of their bedroom, some parents may take this choice into consideration.
  • Triple Bunk Beds: Rarely do triple bunk beds exist in typical bedrooms. That’s because standard homes and apartments in the USA often have ceilings that don’t rise more than 8 feet. They come in the previously mentioned conventional twin and twin XL sizes. They typically stand 82 inches tall, which could be excessively high for certain ceilings. However, triple bunk beds are the best option for several roommates, provided the bunk bed is appropriate for a camp or a bedroom with a higher overhead setting. They are also appropriate for houses with taller ceilings.

  • Loft Beds: Children or teens who don’t share a room with anybody but want to maximize space-saving options might consider loft beds. By purchasing a loft bed, you may free up more space for your room’s desk, closet, toys, and other furnishings. While the height changes according to your choices, it is the same in terms of size as the other beds. Based on where your ceiling is, loft beds are often Twin or Twin XL beds that are approximately 63 and 70 inches tall.
  • Combination With Queen And King Beds: In the event that parents stay in a camper room or other kind of dorm with their kids, they are often created on demand. When ordering these, make sure to specify to your preferred carpenter that you want a queen or king bed combined with a twin or twin XL bunk bed atop. Naturally, the woodworker will add a couple of extra inches to provide room for the mattress in the bed.

The good thing nowadays is that bedding options are incredibly customizable, which makes choosing a bed as per your specific means quite easy. In fact, there are several furniture dealers who will create unique bed requirements as per your direction. If you are considering bunk beds for your family, it is important to explore all the possible options available out there.
