Nowadays, everyone dreams of becoming popular on social media. However, the path to becoming an influencer is not easy, it requires constant work and great passion. Domi and Frida are a couple of travel influencers who love sharing amazing content on their social channels. This couple created @weloveourlife in 2017 and today boasts a following of more than 500k people on Instagram. Just look at their profile and you will immediately understand why they have such a large following. In fact, thanks to their passion for photography, they travel the world working with brands and hotels.
How was your We Love Our Life project born?
In the summer of 2017, we were on the island of Zakynthos in Greece. We started taking pictures of ourselves on this journey and creating content in general. When we got home, we decided to post them on Instagram. We noticed that our small audience of friends and family enjoyed our photos. So, we decided to share all the photos from our future travels and the rest is history! This was the beginning of our project.
How did you start working with brands and hotels?
This is not a quick and easy process to be honest. The first step is to make yourself known to the world through the contents that are shared. Keep in mind that the Instagram feed for example is your portfolio to show to brands. If these brands love your content, they might be interested in working with you and contacting you. So, we started by creating a feed that showed our travels, our love and passion. We were contacted by brands and hotels since we only had 10-20k followers to promote their activities and services. Our first collaboration with a hotel was in Paris.
What do the public think about your travels and how do you afford them?
Many people often ask us how we afford our travels. Where do we find the money for luxury hotels? In truth, very often we pay nothing. We collaborate with hotels, airlines and tourism boards by offering content creation and promotion on our social media channels. Additionally, we collaborate with restaurants, car rentals and other local services. We cover other expenses thanks to the revenue from brand advertising and our jobs as an architect (Frida) and pharmacist (Domi).
What do you think about the role of the travel influencer in 2021?
Due to Covid-19, all tourism in general, starting with local businesses, is in crisis. So, in our opinion, the role of the travel influencer in the coming months will be very important. Many people do not feel safe when traveling during this time and returning to a situation like before Covid will not be a quick process. For this reason, our role is to strongly promote tourism in the world in order to reactivate the tourism machine.
If you’re someone who wants to get into the life of being a travel influencer, what advice would you give on how to get started?
Passion is the key. If you are not passionate about one thing, in this case travel, it is useless to start. So, you must have passion first of all. Many ask us if you have to travel exclusively to cool places to make beautiful content. This is not true. In fact, you can start by traveling near your home. Keep in mind that the creative process is very important in making your content. For this reason, you don’t need a thousand-dollar camera to take great pictures. A good camera and the right lens can help you, sure, but creativity is more important in our opinion.
