Fire-Saved Assets

A house fire can be traumatic and scary, so it’s important to know what you can salvage after a house fire. It may seem like nothing is recoverable, but there are actually many things that still might be usable after a house fire. Here is a list of salvagable items after a house fire given below:

Appliances

The most crucial thing to do is assess whether the appliances can be salvaged. They can be sold if they are not damaged and can be cleaned. They should be recycled if damaged and cannot be washed. Appliances that are not salvageable will have to be sold as scrap metal or donated if possible (in which case, it’s best to find an organization that accepts old appliances).

Electronics

Whether you’re just starting to clean up after a fire or already deep into the process, it’s vital to remember that electronic devices can be expensive. If your insurance covers any damage, check with them first to see what they’ll offer.

To ensure you get every possible benefit from your policy, you may also want to invest in a home warranty that covers electronics and other household items like appliances and kitchen cabinets. Regular policies may not cover old equipment and custom-made items like kitchen cabinets, which is particularly true if you have them.

Furniture

If your furniture was damaged in a fire, it might be possible to salvage it. This can be done by removing any soot and debris from the furniture with a soft brush and vacuum. Then, you’ll need to check for fire damage. If there is no damage present (meaning the pieces aren’t warped or melted), they can be repaired at a local upholstery shop or even yourself if you’ve got some DIY skills!

However, if your furniture has been warped or melted during the fire and cannot be saved through cleaning and repair methods, then we recommend selling what’s left of it online on sites like Craigslist or eBay. Alternatively, you may give these products to a non-profit organization (like Goodwill) to utilize them by someone else in need.

Carpets and flooring

You may think carpets, carpeting, and flooring are lost forever after a fire. You’re not quite right.

They can be replaced by a professional or by you. They’re not very expensive, and most are easy to put back in place once they’ve been cleaned up after being pulled out of the house’s burnt-out shell.

Mattresses

If you’ve ever been in an apartment fire, you know your mattress has been exposed to certain chemicals, smoke, and water. Even if you don’t see it at first, these elements might make sleeping on a bed risky.

  • Mattresses that have been exposed to fire contain harmful chemicals such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide. These are two of the most dangerous gases released during fires because they are odorless and colorless. They can also cause long-term health problems like cancer or heart disease.
  • Smoke is another common problem found in mattresses after house fires which causes coughing or throat irritation when inhaled over time; however, this may not be enough reason not to sleep on your bed if there aren’t any visible signs (such as dust) left behind after cleaning it out with soap & water before using again!

Doors and windows

The windows are one of the most valuable parts of your house, as it works to keep heat in and unwanted elements out. If your home has been scorched by fire, you may be wondering whether or not to replace the windows. The cost can be high if you need to replace all of them with new ones. However, some alternatives will save money while maintaining safety and aesthetics:

  • Vinyl windows
  • Wood windows
  • Wood-look windows
