Fox Shock Sets Guide – How To Choose The Best One For Your Truck

It is no secret that Fox shocks are some of the best in the business. However, knowing this doesn’t mean that you are done with your buying decision. First, you need to determine if they fit into your budget. Then, you need to figure out exactly which Fox products are right for your truck. With such a comprehensive lineup, the brand doesn’t make that choice simple.

2.0 Performance IFP

These are the entry-level products for the Fox lineup. They are available for most modern trucks, SUVs and Jeeps. They feature aluminum bodies that are naturally corrosion- and rust-resistant. They are often compared to Bilstein 5100 or 4600 shocks, with the exception that the Fox products are more ideal for off-road use.

These shocks are not forgiving. You will feel bumps as you go over them. However, they are very long-lasting and produce great trail performance. Additionally, they have great heat management, so you can ride all day with minimal issues.

2.0 Performance Reservoir

With a reservoir, this shock design has more fluid than the entry-level design. Therefore, it tends to operate without heating up much, even with significant use. In turn, this leads to more consistent handling. The reservoir also allows for extra travel inside the main shock body, improving performance.

Compared to standard shocks, these can go harder and faster with minimal issues. Otherwise, these are similar to the standard IFP design.

2.5 Factory

The numbers are the beginning of Fox products are the size of the shock body. These 2.5-inch shocks have significantly more fluid inside them due to the larger diameter. Many of these factory models include remote reservoirs.

These are sometimes installed by OEMs, but many of the shocks can be purchased aftermarket as well. They offer such great performance that most drivers will never know what they are truly capable of. However, if you are going all out with your 2 inch lift kit, off-road tires and trail-ready gearing, you will want to invest in the best possible shocks. These may be a go-to option for you.

3.0 Factory

For an even beefier option, consider the 3.0 series. These are most commonly found in high-end OEM setups such as on the Ford Raptor. However, there are some 3.0 shocks available for aftermarket installs as well.

This is only really necessary for truly aggressive off-roading such as competitions and races. These shocks will stand up to even the most intense conditions imaginable. As the size suggests, they have plenty of space for travel and fluid. So, their dampening is excellent. You will want to pair these with some of the meanest truck tires you can find.
