Gas Grills – Everything You Need to Know Before Using and Buying One!

Thinking about buying a gas grill? Here’s what you need to know before getting one!

The smell of barbeque mixed with burgers, steaks and the good company of your friends and family having a good time is nothing short of spending a perfect evening.

However, there is a big difference between the grills you use. Charcoal grills may give off that smoky flavor but, it also takes a while to heat up. Once you’re done, then you have to wait for the coals to cool down and then dispose of them.

Gas grills, on the other hand, are easier to control and more flexible to use. If you’re interested to get your hands on a gas grill, then you’ve come to the right place. We’re here to help you to better understand the gas grill.

Let’s find out more about these amazingly convenient grills!

How Much Does a Gas Grill Cost?

In terms of price, a charcoal grill will cost you roughly over $160, whereas a good gas grill can be somewhere around $900-$1000. However, there are smaller models available if you’re not  sure about investing in a full-fledged gas grill.

The smaller grills don’t have as many burners and might not even be as long-lasting as the expensive ones. So, if you’re ready to switch to a gas grill like the nexgrill 4 burner, then be prepared to invest a substantial amount of money!

What to Look for When Buying a Gas Grill

It’s only natural to feel overwhelmed when you don’t know what you should look for. Thankfully, we can help you out there too!

Here are a few facts you should look out for, when you’re buying a gas grill:

The Build

The first thing you should check is the construction of the gas grill. Choosing one that has a heavy metal build is the most ideal option.

Stainless steel built gas grills might be sturdy and attractive, however, it won’t hold in the heat as cast aluminum would. It’s also hard to keep it looking snazzy in the long run.

Also, always avoid buying a grill with sharp gaps or edges.

Number of Burners

The more burners you get on a grill, the more people you can feed if you have a large group to feed.

Having more burners will give you flexibility, for example, you can grill two different items like chicken and steak at the same time. Not only that, you can also cook food on different levels of heat  too.

Bronze or stainless steel burners are ideal choices to keep in comparison to aluminum as they are more sturdy and are less likely to rust.

Removable Grease Tray and Wheels

Disposing of the grease that accumulates after a cookout is most important. The best way to get rid of that grease is to get aluminum pans that you can replace after using.

As for wheels, look for a grill that has at least two wheels on it. That way it’ll be easier to store it away when not using it and also to move to a different place in case you need to.

Extra Additions

It’s nice to get something extra with your grill that makes it more worthwhile, right? Like, a side table where you can keep a tray for your grilled food or where you can rest your spatula.

Or if you have a side burner then you can use it to simmer your baked beans or barbeque sauces. Tool hooks are also a great addition where you can hang your brushes, bottle opener, and tongs.

Fuel gauges and built-in thermometers might not always be accurate, but it will give you a general idea about how much gas you might have left and how hot it is under the lid.

What’s NOT Essential When Buying a Gas Grill

You’ll find many gas grills that come with stickers on them or on the boxes indicating the number of BTUs it has.

BTU stands for British Thermal Units and many companies put a great deal of emphasis on it, however, this feature doesn’t mean anything concrete and is often considered to be misleading too.

It essentially tells you how much gas the grill will use, which should roughly translate to how much power the grill initially has. But, it doesn’t tell you whether the grill has higher heat or better cooking abilities.

Anyone can tell that the bigger the grill is, the more fuel it’ll use. We recommend not pay too much attention to this particular term.

How to Take Proper Care of a Gas Grill

It’s always good practice to keep your grill clean after you’ve used it. After all, it can help to prolong the life of your precious grill for which you have invested a lot of money.

Here are a few ways  that you should always remember for taking proper care of your grill:

Always Clean the Grate After Use

First and foremost, always remember to clean the grates after you’re done with your grilling. The best time to do it is while it’s still hot, otherwise, once your grill cools down the crud will harden. This will make it hard to get them off your grill.

Keep a stiff brush or crumpled up some aluminum foil for cleaning the grates. If you forget to clean it right after your grilling session, then do it the next time you’re using it by preheating the grill and cleaning it first before you start cooking.

Keep it Covered

Keep the grill covered by using a grill cover when it’s not in use. The only time you shouldn’t cover it up is if you live in a humid climate. If the grill is covered then there is a chance that the moisture will get trapped under the cover and eventually start to rust.

A Good Scrubbing

Lastly, give your entire grill a good scrubbing once or twice a year if you use it in every season. A thorough cleaning with a brush will help to get rid of the built-up junk. Don’t forget to wash the exterior and the lid  also with soapy water!

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, we hope that our article helps you to find a gas grill that meets all your needs. Grilling is a great activity you can indulge in and what better way to do it than in the most convenient way available to you?

Don’t forget to be careful when you’re grilling and also don’t forget to share this with your enthusiastic grilling buddies!
