Going above and beyond | Nina Darmeci believes in delivering and innovating things

Humans have progressed so much in such a short span because they focus on innovating. Human ingenuity is built on innovation because humans always strive to go further than where they were before. Dancing might not seem like something that has much room for innovation, but that’s not necessarily the case as far as Nina Darmeci is concerned. In fact, she focuses on continuing to hone her craft so she can bring something new to the table.

Nina Darmeci is the founder of Nina’s Choreography Dance and Zumba Fitness Company. You’ve likely heard of her if you live in London and are interested in dancing or Zumba. She’s an award-winning choreographer from a small island called Mayotte near Madagascar. However, while she might be from Mayotte, she traces her origins to India. As a result, she’s multilingual, fluently speaking Gujarati, Hindi, English, French, Mahoraise, and other regional Indian languages.

She obtained most of her education in India. She was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at Elphinstone College in Mumbai but unfortunately had to leave in her second year of college due to intense health problems. Shortly after, she got married when she was only 22. While Nina had dreams of becoming a dancer and learning more about it in college, she had to push them back and focus on more practical solutions.

As a college dropout, her options were limited. Thus, she entered the travel and tourism industry, getting certified and working for a few travel agencies. She eventually ended up working for South African Airways for a few years. However, despite her success in the travel and tourism industry, she didn’t want to give up her aspirations to become a dancer and choreographer. After all, she had been passionate about it since she was five years old. She had previously performed on a national level in India Panchgani when she was 12. In addition, she had also performed in Mayotte nationally and represented India all over the Indian Ocean Island.

Thus, she continued teaching herself about different dance forms. She also obtained certifications in Hip-Hop dancing and Bharatnatyam Classical Dancing. Furthermore, she also got certified in Zumba Basic and Zumba Kids Jr. in 2016. Since then, Nina Darmeci has been on an upwards trajectory. She runs both Zumba and dancing classes in London today. She also does wedding choreography, such as private dance classes, parties, events, or school functions.

Her expertise in dancing and choreography meant she quickly began to garner a reputation for herself. However, her popularity exploded when she became the first dance instructor to offer Bollywood-inspired Zumba classes. Eventually, MATV UK approached her with a TV show. They wanted her to run the Zumba with Nina TV show in 2022. She agreed, and the show was a runaway success, reaching nearly a million viewers across the UK and Europe.

Her success also opened new doors of opportunity. Apart from that, for three consecutive years, Nina choreographed the biggest Diwali performance in London at Trafalgar Square, which is an achievement in itself. This is not all! Students have also labelled her the Duracell Bunny for her energetic and infectious energy. She aims to expand her Bollywood-inspired Zumba classes in and around northwest London. She’s also returning to MATV UK soon. The journey wasn’t easy. Her road was paved with obstacles, but her dream became a reality somewhere down the line. Nina Darmeci believes this wouldn’t have been possible without hard work, honesty, motivation, and creativity. She believes striving to improve continually and constantly innovating is what has helped her get to where she is today.
