How Bad Mental Health Affects Lifestyles | An insight by Scott Waltman

It is inevitable to have good mental health in order to have a balanced lifestyle. Even though a lot of stress is being given to mental health in recent times, there is a section of society that tends to ignore its significance. If not paid much attention, mental health can easily deteriorate. So, it is essential to address a matter as crucial as mental health, or else it can negatively impact our lifestyles.

There are ways in which we can ensure mental well-being. The first is to consult a certified professional who offers expertise in the field of psychology and behavioral studies to help individuals do better in their lives. In a world full of people, who claim to be professionals, the right ones are difficult to find. Even if you come across someone exceptionally good at their work, sometimes, we need a professional who aligns solely with our mentality.

One such individual is Dr. Scott Waltman, who specializes in the field of cognitive behavior therapy and aims to provide the world with better insights into mental health and how it can affect our lifestyles. Dr. Scott is a clinical psychologist who graduated from Pacific University in Oregon. He began his journey as a psychologist with an aim to help people be better as well as healthier versions of themselves.

Psychology in the Eyes of Dr. Scott Waltman

A clinical psychologist has to learn a great deal about human behavior and understand to its core what role the brain plays in establishing an individual’s persona. Dr. Scott Waltman, with the ambition of providing individuals with the nurturing they require, stepped into the world of Psychology and learned how cognitive behavior therapy helps people become healthy.

He completed his pre-doctoral internship at Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo, after which he accomplished his post-doctoral fellowship in Torrance, California. His journey as a trainer in cognitive behavior therapy began when he started practicing at the University of Pennsylvania, where he worked under one of the most remarkable psychiatrists of all time, Dr. Aron T Beck.

Dr. Scott’s years of training clinical psychologists helped him identify a core issue clinicians were facing due to which their patients could not do better. He realized that the majority of psychologists were not doing well at Socratic questioning. As a result, the therapy conducted by those psychologists was more confrontational than collaborative.

After years of research and conducting studies on clinicians, he devised a framework to improve ways of questioning patients. His research and the framework he established have helped several clinical psychologists to improve their methodology and establish a much healthier approach to aid patients during their journey towards betterment.

His Insights on How Bad Mental Health Can Affect Lifestyles

In his years in teaching, training, and dealing with people associated with psychology, be it his trainees or patients, Dr. Scott has understood the significance of mental health in an individual’s life and how badly it can affect lifestyles. According to his research, Dr. Scott acknowledges that if a person has poor mental health, everything they do is affected. It creates a barrier for that person to relate to others. The individual may have difficulty handling mood and creating adequate balance in mood swings while feel challenged in daily functioning.

According to Dr. Scott, a bad mental state can alter how an individual responds to stressful situations. Nowadays, life is challenging for everyone, including children and adults. Therefore, a person with a healthy mind may have a better response to a problem, while an individual with a bad mental state is more likely to react than respond to the situation.

A bad mental state can lead an individual in a stressful situation to freak out and may not be able to come up with a reasonable solution to the problem at hand. However, someone with a better mental state could resolve the issue using critical thinking while keeping themselves calm throughout. The difference in the situations of two individuals having different states of mind is the outcome they produce.

The person with better mental health may accomplish the task using a much more productive approach. In contrast, someone with poor mental health may make the situation worse by seeing the problem as more complicated than it actually is. As a result, the individual might end up hating the task, may find ways to run away from it, or give up entirely.

There Is Light at the End of the Tunnel

Bad mental health works like a stigma that will eventually swallow your entire being, leading you into turmoil that you may find impossible to get rid of. Dr. Scott Waltman emphasizes that individuals with mental health disorders still have hope to lead a better life.

Using the power of social media, he uses humor to reach out to people and raise awareness about how bad mental health can affect lifestyles. And that is exactly what sets him apart from his competitors.
