How does an Online Wedding Registry Work

Weddings are fun, and so are wedding gifts. If you are like most modern couples, you already live together or have started planning for your marital home well before the D-day! You have a fair idea about things you would need in your house. So, why not communicate the same to your guests and make sure you don’t end up getting stuff that you don’t need? That’s where an online wedding registry helps.

Wedding Registry: The Concept

Online Wedding registry services are provided by an online or a retail store that has tied up with wedding registry companies to offer the service to the millennial couples. Many popular online stores like Amazon provide this service. They have a website where couples can register and create a list of gift items they want their guests to choose from.

Can You Add Cash to the Registry?

Most wedding registry services also provide the service of cash registries for couples that prefer cash instead of gift items. You can later spend the cash in a way you like – on honeymoon or decorating your home.

What about Logistics?

The logistics are taken care of by the online store or the online registry company. It’s convenient for the guests as it saves them the hassle of going to the store to pick up the items physically. The items are directly delivered to the address designated by the couples. For instance, some couples may like to store all gifts at their new home, so they don’t have to worry about moving in with new stuff.

How Do They Work?

Many couples shy away from wedding registries because they feel it makes them appear greedy by telling guests what they want for their wedding. However, it is a practical solution for guests. They can visit the online website, choose the item as per their budget and preference, and have it delivered to the couple.

Ideally, couples should register themselves well before the wedding, just after engagement or finalized dates. Accordingly, the guests have ample time to choose the gift they wish. Also, they can have it delivered to the couple as and when they want, whether for the pre-wedding celebration or on the due date or honeymoon after the wedding. Of course, there isn’t an obligation that guests have to choose from the registry selected by the couple, but it just makes the process more convenient for them.

Couples can include a range of items like dinnerware, crockery, china, bedding set, decor items, utility items, appliances, furniture, etc.

Of course, you don’t have to go tell the guests about the online wedding registry, you could subtly have it mentioned on the bridal shower invite or via word of mouth, so it looks like it is from the person hosting the event.

Wrapping up

Remember, your guests may have different budgets in mind. Include a wide variety of items in your registry so as to suit every budget. So, what are you waiting for? Get started on creating your dream wedding wish list.
