How Sober Coaches Help Troubled Teens With Recovery

In America alone, one out of eight teens has been abusing illicit substances (smoke, alcohol, drugs). The numbers of teenagers who have been using these substances grow more and more over the years. In 2020, 8th graders who use drugs increased to 61% since 2016.

Treating these young individuals can be very difficult, making their journey to recovery extremely difficult. Teenagers can sometimes be impulsive and wild, which makes it hard for their families to encourage them to go to rehabilitation facilities and get into treatment.

This is where sober coaches take action. They are designed to support young people and push them to live a peaceful and healthier lifestyle.

A sober coach is a type of mentor for youth recovering from substance abuse issues. They may also work on their physical and mental health, their career, and even teach them how to live a normal life without drugs.

This connection between the sober coach and his or her young client is one of the most important factors in getting better. They are well equipped with knowledge about addiction as they have gone through it themselves before. They also have the experience in dealing with troubled teens, making it easy for them to guide their clients through this difficult journey.

They are patient and calm so they can handle any situation that comes up during sessions. They offer encouragement when needed and talk things out if there is a problem. This approach works best because teenagers do not like it when their mentors are too strict. They want to be treated like adults, so they will listen more intently if their sober coach treats them with respect and kindness.

Sometimes teenagers make mistakes or have bad days where they feel down about themselves. A good mentor knows the right words to say at these times in order for his client not to give up on the journey to recovery.

This is why it is very important for sober coaches to understand their clients’ thoughts and feelings about their drug use, while also being aware of how certain situations affect them emotionally. This will allow them to be prepared in case a problem arises during sessions or when they are going through tough times outside treatment centers.

Can Teens Benefit From Having A Sober Companion?

As a parent or a guardian of a teenager, you care so much about your child’s overall health and you take the best precautions to keep them healthy. If you are still on the fence about how sober coaching can help your teenager, here are some of the benefits of having a sober coach for your troubled teen.

Parents can hire sober coaches to help them with their troubled teens. A sober coach is a specialist who deals more with the aspect of helping teenagers recover from substance abuse and addiction while also ensuring that they get committed to rehab facilities or treatment programs.

Sober coaching helps provide teens with the right guidance, motivation, and support they need in order for them to achieve sobriety.

Just like how sober coaches work with adults, teens also can benefit the same and become successful in their recovery. Sober coaches are designed to help individuals, in this case, teens, recover from their suffering caused by harmful substances like alcohol,  and drugs. They work closely with the individual to make them sober, maintain their sobriety, and live sober.

Even before your troubled teenager starts their detoxification in the rehab, sober coaches come in handy in encouraging and motivating them to undergo treatment.

During the treatment program, recovering teenagers can experience a lot of withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms make it hard for them to continue their treatment and sober coaches motivate them to continue further with the program. A sober coach can gain access to a treatment facility pending releases are signed and the facilities guidelines. When visiting they can assist in encouraging the client to stay in treatment and provide that outside influence that the client trusts.

When recovering teenagers completed their detoxification program, sober coaches will guide them all throughout their journey until they reach sobriety. Sober coaches also help avoid instances of relapse, which is common among teenagers who take treatment for substance abuse and addiction. With a sober coach by their side, teens will be able to find it easier to remain on track with recovery while at the same time, continue with their daily lives and activities.

Sober coaching can help parents reinforce to teenagers that they are not alone in this journey towards sobriety since sober coaches work closely with them throughout the whole process of recovery.

The main benefits of having a sober coach include:

  • Ensuring that recovering teenagers are on the right track on their recovery program
  • Making sure that teenagers make healthy life choices before, during, and after rehabilitation.
  • Providing strong support, inspiration, encouragement, and motivation
  • Listening to the young’s issues and concerns without biases and judgments
  • Teaching critical life skills to help them reconnect with their normal life
  • Boosting self-esteem and encouraging them to see positivity in everything they do
  • Helping them reconnect with their family and peers
  • Providing them with skills and tools that would help them prevent relapse

Guide your youth to a Brighter Future

Teenagers are malleable, they take everything that people are telling them. This age group is ever curious about things and they want to try everything, all the more when they are pressured by the wrong group of peers.

It is our role as a parent to do our best in keeping  them on the right track. And together with sober coaches, teenagers who are once under the influence of substances  will live peacefully in a clean and healthier lifestyle. Cheers to a better life for the young!

Parnts need to guide their children to live healthy lifestyles. When they are under the influence of drugs, it is very hard for them to get better. It can be hard for parents because teenagers can be impulsive and wild.  Parents can gain peace of mind with help from sober services who will assist their child return to life without the use of drugs or alcohol.
