How to Avoid WFH Burnout

With more people than ever working from home due to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, there has been a growing focus on how to make this situation work. Striking the right personal life and work balance is a lofty goal when telecommuting. Finding this balance will help you to avoid becoming burnout when balancing these competing facets of life. Here are four ways that you can avoid burnout when working from home.

Set Realistic Goals: Every productive work arrangement starts with setting realistic goals. Do not just keep these goals in your head. Write them down on paper and post them in a visible place. This will provide a guiding framework to you as you make decisions related to your work life and your career. It is also important to track your progress as you move through your goals. This will provide motivation to continue and allow you to reflect on how far you have come, delivering even more encouragement to work hard.

Create a Dedicated Work Space: You cannot expect to be productive if you do not have a dedicated work space. Your office space should have a comfortable chair and a suitable desk large enough for your needs. Depending on your line of work, you may also find an organizational system to be helpful. Be sure to install the proper lighting in your work area. This area should be free of distractions and noise. Even if your home does not have a dedicated room for an office, you can clear out a corner or another area to serve as this space.

Relax After Work: One of the biggest challenges of working from home is not being tempted to work after hours. It is easy to walk into your office during the middle of the evening to try check one more thing off of your list. However, you will be happier if you are able to disconnect from your work when the business day is over. In order to do this, you may need to be intentional about relaxing. Putting your head down and working without the distraction of the online world will prove fruitful for your overall work goals. In addition, do not be hesitant to take frequent breaks throughout the day in order to clear your mind and move your body.

All four of these tips will ensure that you avoid burnout when working from home during this challenging time.
