How To Choose The Perfect Wigs For Beginners

Ah, you’re about to hit your first hair milestone – buying your first 100% human hair wigs. Now, we understand that this can be a bit overwhelming. There are just so many options, straight, curly, wavy, short, medium, long, blonde, black, brown, and more!

You can’t decide which one will look good on you and which one won’t.

Of course, we all know any wig that doesn’t flatter you, doesn’t belong on your head. So how do you choose your first wig, as a beginner? Let us tell you what to consider and how to make your final decision.

The first thing to consider is length.

Length

There are four major lengths to consider when getting a wig – short, medium, long and extra long. Short wigs are 10 inches and under. Medium-length wigs are 12 to 16 inches long. Long wigs are 18 to 24 inches long. And finally, extra long wigs are 26 inches and up.

As a beginner, it is best to start with a short or medium length human hair lace front wig but it all depends on your preference.

If you are going to choose a long wig, you should know that they trap more heat. So you will feel warm whenever you have a wig on. Also, some people tend to be easily irritated, which means that the constant feeling of hair brushing against their skin can make them quite uncomfortable.

So before choosing your first wig length, make sure it’s one you’re 100 percent comfortable with.

The next thing to consider is the shape of your face.

Face Shape

Your personal preference is important in choosing your first wig, but the shape of your face is a major determinant of how well a wig will look on you.

Let’s take a look at each face shape and the best wigs for them.

●     Oval face

If you have an oval face, with a forehead slightly larger than the chin, most wigs will look great on you. But there are certain wigs – mid-length bobs and long wavy hair.

●     Square face

A square face is equal to the forehead and jawline. The best wigs for this face shape are a chin length bob, long wavy hair and a layered bob with side bangs.

Some wigs to avoid altogether because of how uncomfortable they are include jaw-length bobs, pixie wigs with bangs, and ponytail wigs.

●     Round face

This face shape is characterized by chubby cheeks and round and full jawline. The perfect wig for a round face, side-parted lob, or layered bob.

Wigs that you should completely avoid are mid-length voluminous curls, and bobs with bangs.

●     Hearth face

This face has a round forehead and cheekbones with a pointed chin and narrow jaw. The best wigs are curly wigs with bangs or curly side bangs.

Hairstyles to completely avoid are the big bob or pixie. None of these styles will look good or flatter your beautiful face.

Now it’s time to pick the color.

Wig color

There are so many colors for wigs nowadays but the problem is which colors are best for a beginner?

As a new kid in the hair game, your first wig should be fairly similar in color to your real hair.

Among a thousand other hairs, it must be something you cannot easily see. It can be black or brown, two neutral colors.

You should also choose a color that goes well with your skin tone. After all, what does your wig mean it shouldn’t be on your head?

Another thing to consider when getting your first wig as a beginner is a make. Should it be a human hair wig, a synthetic wig, or a fiber wig?

Although you probably know this, your best choice is a human hair wig. It lasts longer, is easier to maintain, and looks better.

If your budget is too tight then you can go good cheap wigs with human hair. But rest assured, you can never go wrong with these hair wigs.

The size of your wig cap is also very important when choosing your first wig. You should inquire about your head size, so that you can buy a wig that is not too tight or too loose for your head.

Most people wear a size average but it’s important to get your head measured first, just to be safe. Also, make sure the wig comes with an adjustable strap to help it stay tighter on your head.

So, there are a few things to consider when initially getting your first wig. Hopefully, with the help of this list, you will be able to choose the right type of wig with little or no pressure.
