How To Choose The Right Wine For You

There is a vast array of wines to choose from, and it can almost be overwhelming when selecting what wine you want. Some of the main wine categories include full-bodied wines, medium-bodied wines, light-bodied wines, rose wines, aromatic white wines, sparkling wines, dessert, and fortified wines.

You will need to drink lots of wine from different categories to figure out what you like and what you do not like. Below are a few tips you can use to determine the right wine for you.

Go to a Wine Shop

If you are still trying to figure out the right wine for you, go to a wine shop if there is one in your area. Do not go to a supermarket or a liquor store as you will not get much insight there. Instead, visit a shop that sells wine explicitly as they are more likely to be informed about the various kinds of wine they have stocked. You could ask them to recommend one of their best wines for you to try out.

You can try different types of wine until you find the one you love. You could also go to a wine bar, or take wine classes as you will most likely get more insight from the class. Alternatively, you could visit a winery and sample different wines. It would be a great way to spend your day. You will get all the information you need, and most likely find the right wine for you.

Wine Apps

A couple of wine apps you could install and check out the information and reviews on different wines. Users often post the wines they have drunk and write a review or rate the wine. This is an easy way for you to get feedback and narrow down the options on what kind of wines you would like to sample. However, it would be best if you kept in mind that the best wine is relative. Just because other people have highly rated a particular wine and say they love it, it does not necessarily mean you will love it. For instance, if you like sweet wine, focus on trying the sweet wines that have been reviewed instead of sampling dry wines.

Note the Importer

If you find a wine you like, check the bottle to see the importer. Then try other wines from the same importer because they will most likely have a standard taste. Most importers will stick to a particular style of wine, making it easier for you to find what you like since you can easily sample different wines from the same importer.

Seek Advice

When you figure out what you like your wine to taste like, you can easily seek advice when getting wine. Whether you are in a restaurant or a wine shop, all you need to do is tell them what you like your wine to taste like and ask if they can recommend anything. You could also name a brand you like and let them know you would like something that tastes close to that, and they will point you in the right direction. Also, you can use social media to find wines that you may like. You can use these wine hashtags and captions to help you.

Try Something New

You do not always have to select the same wine over and over again. On some occasions, pick a wine you have never heard of, or a wine whose name you cannot pronounce. Especially in restaurants as they only put select wines on the list. Chances are, when you try a new wine, you will probably love it.

Selecting the right wine for you does not have to be a challenging task. Make it fun and try different wines with friends or alone. Please educate yourself on the categories and what they best pair with. Remember to note down what the wine tastes like or even what it reminds you of. This will help you narrow down to a wine that is right for you.
