How to clean a mattress – 6 easy steps to remove stains and smells

Although modern mattresses often have either an innerspring core or materials such as latex, viscoelastic, or other flexible polyurethane foams, these become filthy if they do not remain in good care. If you have asthma or allergies, a dirty mattress irritates your symptoms. Trust me! I am the sufferer.

Various causes might be causing your mattress to smell terrible. Are you having some bed sleeps because of the smell?

One of the most significant contributors is accumulating dead skin cells, sweat, body oils, and poorly cleaned spills from eating or drinking in bed. Here are 6 easy steps from Cleanzen to remove stains and smells from your mattress.

Start with the beddings

At first, strip the bed and wash the sheets, pillowcases, and blankets. To get rid of dust mites, wash bedding in hot water if feasible. It is beneficial to wash sheets once a week to help keep your mattress clean.

Vacuuming the mattress

Use the upholstery tool if you have one to vacuum the top of the mattress, the sides, and below the bed. Lift the mattress and vacuum between the mattresses and the box springs.

Wash using detergents

Combine mild laundry detergent or dish soap with tepid water and rub the stain with a clean cloth after it is soaked in the mixture. If the paint is severe, mix 2 ounces of hydrogen peroxide with one scoop of liquid dish soap and salt.

Spread this on the stain and wait 10 minutes before scraping it away with a sponge bar; do not directly pour any chemical into the mattress.

Vinegar might be a good washing agent

Vinegar must be on the clean mattress list. Fill a spray bottle halfway with distilled vinegar and the other half with water. Using your vinegar solution, spray the afflicted area. Using towels, wipe any remaining wetness away. If still wet, let it dry for 20-30 minutes. After that, apply a thin layer of baking soda to the whole surface of the mattress.

Do not underestimate baking soda

Baking soda absorbs moisture and neutralizes odor. After one and a half hours, vacuum away the baking soda and let the mattress dry in sunlight or air dry it.

External protection to reduce your cleaning work

Protecting your mattress is a better idea than cleaning a stinky one. Don’t remain your room dumb and wet to prevent any fungus attack.

Place the mattress cover over your mattress and wrap it with the sheet. If you use a pad or foam topper to make your bed softer, it should be placed between the mattress cover and the fitted sheet.

Conclusion

Make sure to remember us when your house guests compliment us about how well organized, clean, and beautiful the smell your mattress has. On that note, make sure to mention where you got the idea of cleaning your mattress. Cleanliness will bring out a lively color in you. Have a good day!
