How To Clean a Watch Band

You’ve just purchased yourself a leather band for your watch. It makes you feel classy and sophisticated for a few days at least. After about a week of constant use, you may start to notice an interesting odor.

Leather is absorbent, so it tends to trap in sweat. Frequent scrubbings are the best answer to the problem, but you don’t know how to clean a watch band.

The last thing you want is to ruin your new leather strap. Don’t worry the process isn’t as difficult as you may think. Check out this watch strap cleaning guide to learn how to clean any band material.

Remove the Watch Strap

Before you clean a watch band, you have to detach it from the watch itself. To do this, you’re going to need a sharp object. You can use a small knife or a specialty tool.

Place the tool in the space where the strap meets the watch and push. It should slide right off.

Once you’ve removed the strap, you’ll clean it according to the material it’s made of.

Leather Band

When you purchase a sevenfriday watch online, know that leather is the trickest band material to clean because you can’t get it wet.  Over time the moisture will cause it to deteriorate.

Grab a cloth and wipe away any stray debris from the band. Next, you’ll spray it with a leather cleaner or conditioner.

Massage the specialty cleaner into the strap before you wipe it clean with a towel. Allow the band to air dry overnight before you reattach it to the watch.

Nylon Band

Nylon is much easier to clean than leather because you don’t have to take the strap off. Check to see if your watch is water-resistant before you do anything.

If it is, you can rinse the entire thing under water. From there, submerge it into a bowl of warm water and soap. Let it soak in the bowl for about three minutes, and scrub away any leftover debris with a brush.

Submerge your watch in the soapy water again for two more minutes before you rinse it under a faucet and pat it dry with a towel.

Stainless Steel Band

Wipe your stainless steel band down with a cloth to get rid of any initial debris. Next, dip the strap in lukewarm soapy water. If you have a spare toothbrush, you can use it to scrub the grooves of the band.

When you’re done, rinse the band with warm water and dry it off with a towel.

How to Clean a Watch Band the Right Way

Wearing a watch can add a touch of elegance to your wardrobe. There will come a time when the band will begin to smell, however.

As you can see, knowing how to clean a watch band comes down to knowing what material it’s made of. From there, you can scrub according to basic instructions.
