How to Encourage Child Creativity at Home in the Quarantine Times?

The coronavirus disease (COVID) pandemic has upended the whole lifestyle of the people. With so many new things coming in, such as working remotely, school closures, social distancing, it has become a lot to navigate.

The only positive thing in the situation is that you can now spend more time with your kids. However, it’s important to engage them in different activities as kids are vulnerable to stress in the imminent changes. Agree they might not understand the magnitude of the COVID pandemic still, they can sense the difference. Keeping them involved in some creative activities will offer an escape from the things they are missing the most such as friends and school.

That is why we have decided to jot down a few activities to encourage your kids to use their imaginations and work through various emotions during this crazy time.

But before beginning the article, don’t forget to take a deep breath! We are together in these difficult times.

Now, let’s get started!

1. Clench your teeth and put up with the painter

We know it’s hard to see your kids creating a mess on your new carpet, but it’s worth it. Give the kids crayons and let their artistic side reveal. You may remember this session as a mess where you had to pack up most of the items without any help. Chances are your child will remember it as the fun session when they see the idea that sparked in their head coming into the paper, of course, not entirely. If they are big enough, you can give them color bottles to perform the experiments. We know even if they are super careful while painting, they somehow manage to spill some color here and there. If not, then you are an odd-one-out or say lucky one. And if you just like any other parent then we recommend you to make your tiny little artist wear old clothes.

2. Free access to craft materials

Yeah, you heard it right! Allowing free access to craft materials for kids is what 50% off in Zara means to adults. But don’t get us wrong here, you may want to keep certain things out of their reaches such as permanent markers and acrylic painting. All you need to do here is make use of a chair bag. Just put the free craft stuff in the book pocket of their chair bag. They can use them as a prop to create some innovative craft projects or maybe building blocks. If you don’t have a chair bag or are looking for one, osmer chair bags provide a variety of color options.

3. Let them explore the surroundings

Here you have to go one step further from the first tip. So rather than just giving your kid a sheet to paint, let them paint the flowerpots. Why not combine art and nature into one fun activity? They can even make use of leaves they find in the garden to make patterns on their flowerpot. We have three design options available for you to ensure full creativity and fun.

  1. Let those little fingers run

Let your kid dip those little fingertips in color and touch it on the pot. Ask them to clean their finger with a damp cloth or water when they want to use a different color. We recommend you to use quality products when engaging in such activity. One such place is Osmer in Australia that offers you all the quality stationery products under one roof.

  1. Make patterns with Gel Crayons

Which kid does not love using a gel pen? Coloring is an easy and fun activity. With the smooth consistency of the canyons, the little ones can create zig-zag lines, circle, and dots on the flowerpot and make it look like a work of art.

  1. Create beautiful drops with Drip Painting

Drip painting is for older children. First, mix the paints with water and then use a pipette to squirt them on the pot. Try to have a running consistency of the paint so you can have better control. This technique may demand some patience, discipline, and practice.

4. Create cards the playful way

Since your kids are now done with painting everything possible, it’s time to come up with some new ideas. So we all know kids miss their friends the most. So the best way to engage them is by creating something that they can share with their friends. How about helping them create an invitation card? With just colorful pastel shades, pen, ruler, scissors in a colorful Osmer pencil case, your kid is all set to create an invitation card for the next birthday party. Here are some quick steps on how they can quickly create a beautiful card:

  • Ask them to fold the paper into two halves
  • Now tell them to write their name and special occasion with colorful pencils.
  • Next, give them the highlighter
  • Lastly use watercolor with a damp brush on the card and let it dry
  • Voila, your card is ready!

Handmade cards will not just bring the creativity of the kid but will also cheer the mood of the people receiving it.

5. You are never too old to participate in Creative Activities

Remember, your kids always look up to you as a role model. It’s better when you can participate with them in making new crafts. It does not have to be perfect, but it is more about enjoying the time and the process. Kids tend to imitate you when they see you making things and hence your participation can set creative examples for them. You don’t need to purchase any fancy craft kits for this as your kids are already creative at heart. All you need is to prepare two Osmer mesh cases that have a pencil case, glue product, scissors, eraser, pencil sharpener in them.

Next, find some materials from your garage or house that you are happy to let go of, and now you are all set to see your kids and your idea flourish. Sometimes their ideas may look far-fetched, but there is no harm in letting them try and learn. All that matters is that they learned how to work together, used their creative thinking, and more importantly, had a lot of fun with you.

The above examples show that there are multiple possibilities to mold craft in your way. What better time than this to make your kids learn new techniques, skills, and see them achieve a sense of accomplishment. You can buy a wide range of art supplies at Office Corporate office supplies range. You can also make them watch art and craft tutorials to drive their creative ideas. If you still run out of ideas, we can tell you one best place that will never disappoint you. Your memory, yes, take reference from your childhood memories to make your kids do the activities that you had the most fun doing.
