How to Exfoliate skin using AHA BHA serum and other acids

Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells from the top layers of the skin. It can help to brighten and improve the appearance of your skin by removing dry or dull skin, improving blood circulation, and removing dry or dull skin.

Exfoliation can be done in a variety of ways. Which method you choose and how often you exfoliate should be determined by your skin type. Although there are many different types of skincare acids, just a few are usually used for exfoliating. AHA and BHA serum are the two most well-known chemical exfoliants.

Advantages of exfoliation

Exfoliating helps in:

  • getting rid of dead skin cells
  • Improved circulation promotes skin turnover, which results in brighter skin.
  • allowing for greater moisturizer and serum absorption

How to exfoliate your skin based on the type of your skin

It’s crucial to be gentle with your skin when exfoliating. Make small circular motions with your finger or use your chosen exfoliating tool to apply a scrub.

  • Dry skin: For dry or flaky skin, exfoliation is essential. Mechanical exfoliation should be avoided on dry skin because it is drying and can create microtears. Dry skin responds well to AHA BHA serum.
  • Normal skin: If your skin is healthy and free of problems, you can use any exfoliation method. Manual and chemical exfoliation are both safe for this skin type. It’s probable that you’ll have to experiment to find the optimal method for your skin.
  • Oily skin: Manual exfoliation and brushing can help oily or thicker skin. An extra layer of buildup on the surface of oily skin can be removed by manual exfoliation. For optimal results, apply a gentle exfoliator or scrub in circular strokes.
  • Combination skin: For combination skin, a combination of mechanical and chemical exfoliation may be necessary. Use a moisturizer immediately after exfoliating if your skin feels dry.
  • Sensitive skin: Scrubbing or mechanical exfoliation should be avoided. These will irritate your skin even more, maybe resulting in redness.

What exactly are acids in skincare?

Acids are among the most effective elements in skin care. Acne, wrinkles, age spots, scars, and uneven skin tone can all be treated with these wonder products. However, with so many acids available, it can be difficult to remember which to use , and for what and which products to purchase. AHA BHA serum can be a go to product.

What are some of the benefits of using acids in skincare?

Exfoliating acid in skincare products increases skin turnover, resulting in a more even skin tone . Acids come in a variety of forms; some are used to cure acne, others to remove dark spots, and yet others to address wrinkles and fine lines more profoundly.

Exfoliants like AHA BHA serum function to get rid of dead skin cells that cause blemishes and outbreaks. Dead skin cells can prevent other skincare products from being absorbed fully. Such as serums and lotions, as well as clogging pores, so using acids in your routine will help you glow.

Commonly used Exfoliating Acids

AHA Exfoliant

Alpha hydroxy acid is abbreviated as AHA. AHAs are a group of acids that are generally generated from plants and animals, however some are synthesized. Glycolic, mandelic, and citric acids are well-known AHAs that may be found in a number of skincare products such as toners, exfoliators, and serums.

AHAs cannot penetrate the skin’s natural oils because they are water soluble. As a result, they’re usually employed on the skin’s surface for their exfoliating characteristics.

Glycolic Acid :

Glycolic acid is a sugar cane-derived water-soluble alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). It serves as one of the most commonly used AHAs in skin care.  Natural acids derived from plants are known as AHAs. They are made up of very small molecules that are very easy to absorb by your skin. This makes them suitable for anti-aging applications such as smoothing fine wrinkles, enhancing skin texture, and so on.

BHA Exfoliant

Beta hydroxy acid (BHA) is a type of exfoliant. Salicylic acid is the only BHA used in skincare, therefore when a product says it contains a BHA, it’s most likely referring to salicylic acid, which can be produced from natural sources like willow bark extract.

Salicylic acid, unlike AHAs, is oil soluble, which means it may enter deeper into pores to help clear out and dissolve excess sebum build-up. If you have oily, blemish-prone skin, salicylic acid is an excellent therapy.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide can increase skin hydration by preventing moisture from the skin from evaporating into the environment when applied topically. It’s also a natural anti-inflammatory, so it’s perfect for soothing irritated skin while also being gentle enough for delicate skin.

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule present in eye and joint fluids. In the joints and other tissues, it works as a cushion and lubricant. Hyaluronic acid is also often taken by mouth and applied to the skin for UTIs, acid reflux, dry eyes, wound healing, aging skin, and a variety of other ailments.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C works as an antioxidant to protect healthy skin cells from free radicals and unstable chemicals. An efficient vitamin C serum for the face, neck, upper chest, and even the back of the hands is suitable as early as your twenties, when there is more exposure to the damaging effects of the outside elements. Vitamin C serums, unlike exfoliants, which remove dead skin cells through a chemical or physical process, stimulate healthy cell turnover (the development of new skin cells), which plays a key role in how our skin looks and feels.

How to exfoliate skin using acids?

While using the AHA BHA Serum and other acid products, follow these simple steps:

  • Apply to clean, dry skin in an even layer, avoiding the eye area, and leave on for no longer than 10 minutes.
  • After washing with cold water, apply a serum and moisturizer.
  • When using this product, be sure to wear sunscreen.
  • It is suggested that you use it no more than twice a week.

Different acid products can be used for exfoliating skin. A humectant of 1% Hyaluronic Acid will hydrate and brighten the skin, while a probiotic of 1.5 percent will keep the skin’s natural microorganisms and build the skin barrier. A AHA BHA serum can be used to exfoliate all layers of your skin and leave you with an even-toned, smooth-textured complexion.

Prevention Tips

  • Find a schedule that works for you. Your exfoliation frequency is dictated by your skin type and exfoliation method.
  • Take a look at the skin-care products you’re already using. Some drugs and even over-the-counter products, such as prescription retinoid creams or retinol or benzoyl peroxide-containing treatments, might make your skin more sensitive or peel.
  • Take care of your skin. If you’re using a scrub or a chemical exfoliant, apply it with short, circular strokes.
  • Choose an exfoliating procedure that is appropriate for your skin type. Mechanical exfoliation may be too irritating for those who have  dry, sensitive, or acne-prone skin, so a washcloth and a gentle chemical exfoliant may suffice.
  • Apply a moisturizer after that. Exfoliating the skin can be very drying. To keep your skin healthy and hydrated, apply moisturizer right after you exfoliate.
