How to Find Accommodations in Scotland that are Pets and Dogs Friendly

When we’re travelling a lot, it’s only natural to want to bring our furry best friends with us.  Unfortunately, there’s a ton of places that aren’t very pet friendly when we’re travelling.  So, when we are trying to plan ahead and rent out a space for our vacation, this is something that we really have to keep in mind.

Thankfully, there are travel guides like this one dedicated to showing us some of the places that could work for our needs.  Depending on what type of pet you have, as well as their breed (especially with dogs), the lodgings you want might look different.  In Scotland, a popular way to travel is to rent out a cottage for a weekend.

Finding one that’s animal-friendly can be a bit tricky, but it’s well worth the trouble once you do.  If you’re curious about how else you can locate them, make sure to stick around!

Research is Key

Honestly, the biggest trick to finding a cottage that will allow you to bring your furry friend with you is to do your research as early as possible.  Most of us plan our vacations out well in advance anyhow, right?  So, once you’ve decided upon Scotland, it’ll be time to sort out where you’ll be staying.

Like was mentioned above, cottages really do seem to be the way to go.  They give you and your family enough space to stretch out, get comfortable, and still get that nice “at-home” sort of feel.  You won’t have to eat out all the time since there will probably be a kitchen, saving you money in the long-term.

Additionally, they often come with outdoor spaces, making them perfect if you’re aiming to bring your dog with you.  That’s probably why dog friendly cottages are so popular right now, given how many people got puppies back in 2020.  Now that we’re finally able to travel the world again, it’s even harder than it was before to leave them behind.

Seeing as that’s the case, start researching rentals that will accept your specific breed of dog.  There’s a pretty huge difference between a chihuahua and a Great Dane, for example, so most of us prefer to be safer rather than worry when it comes to how accepting a homeowner is when they’re renting out their space.  Beyond that, though, there’s also the simple question of whether or not there will be enough space for your pet.

You Don’t Have to Sacrifice Other Amenities

As unfair as it is, a lot of us assume that if we want a place for our pup to stay with us, we’ll have to give up other amenities that make vacations so enjoyable.  When you’re looking for a cottage to rent out, though, remember that you really don’t have to do that.

Seeing as travelling with your dog is becoming more and more trendy, as you can see here, https://lodgingmagazine.com/many-u-s-travelers-plan-to-take-their-pets-on-vacation/, it’s going to be easier to find appropriate lodgings right now.  Always make sure to investigate a listing to see what other sorts of perks are offered as well!

Naturally, that should include a sizable outdoor area as well as things like hot water and a place to shower (and maybe even take a bath).  A kitchen is always nice as well, given what was mentioned previously about being able to make food in your cottage instead of going out to eat for every single meal.

Really, though, the specifics of what to watch for are going to be personal to you and what you want out of your vacation.  Don’t sacrifice that sort of thing when you don’t have to.  Trust me, there are plenty of beautiful cottages in Scotland that are pet friendly and have modern conveniences.

So, whether you’re looking to stay on the beach, in the mountains, or closer to one of the cities in the Scottish countryside, you’re bound to find what you’re looking for.  Sometimes it just takes a little extra digging, but it’ll be worth it in the end when you get to sit back, kick your feet up, and cuddle with your dog too.
