How to Formally Set Your Dining Room Table for Entertaining Guests

Entertaining guests can be a tough ask for most people as you may not know how to do several things. Many people just let the whole event flow like nothing serious is happening. But if you want to make an impression, you need quality dinner sets to set your dining room table formally. This can also be a chore since you may not even know how to go about it. However, if the guest understands the cues here, you need to put in the effort to arrange the dining room formally. Here are some ways you can do it to entertain your guests.

Before The First Course

Your visitors will feel special when they know you have been waiting for them and before the first cause makes the impression. It would help if you had flatware, as the guests will use it first. These are the ones you place on the outside right and left. As the meals go on, they will work their way in towards the plate. The forks are placed on the left side of the plate, and knives and spoons are to the right. You can also add stemware above and to the right of the plate.

Setting For Soup

The soup itself will be served in a heated soup dish and will be eaten with the soup spoon. The soup spoon should be placed on the extreme right of the plate. When they are done, each guest will place their spoon and bowl across the upper right-hand corner. This should signal that the plate, bowl, and silverware should be removed from the table.

Setting For Fish

Fish has its own set of arrangements when you want to set the dinner table. The fish will arrive on the midsize plate. There will be a short and broad fork on the outer left; this is what you will be using. There’s a fish knife that is at the extreme right on your right. When the meal is done, all the silverware should be placed diagonally across the plate.

Main Course Setting

This is now the main meal of the day/night, and it has its peculiar setting. A large dinner plate should be brought to the table – it can either carry food portions or be empty. It is all about preferences here; you can go whichever way you feel comfortable. The plate should be preheated unless the meal is being served cold. And you will have the forks to the left and the knives to the right as the norm. Assuming you had the first course, you are now left with the two forks and a knife. The guests will then use the fork on the outer left of the plate and the knife that remains.

Make Them Feel Special

When you have guests coming over, you need them to feel special, like you waited for them all this while. You can do that by adequately arranging your dinner table. These are some of the ideas you can use to organize your dinner table formally.
