How to Maintain Your Solid Wood Flooring

It’s no secret that solid wood flooring can massively improve the look of your home, and you’re probably all too familiar with this if you have it in your own home. Alongside gorgeous looks, solid wood is incredibly durable too and will last a lifetime, if taken care of properly.

To get the best from your solid wood floors, it does need some special TLC. Here’s how to keep your solid wood flooring the best it can be.

There are a lot of things that can damage your solid wood flooring, so day to day maintenance and care is essential. While this doesn’t necessarily mean you have to get down and on your hand and knees and scrub, but a few tips and tricks will help keep your solid woof flooring looking spic and span.

Remove Footwear

Like most homes, it’s usual for us to remove our shoes before walking in however this is especially important with solid wood flooring or Wood Decking in Singapore. Although it may be surprising, the underside of your shoes are a hazard to your solid wood floor’s good looks. The shoes can cause scuffs which can be hard to remove, or even carry debris from the outside which can end up scratching. High heels are a big no as well, as these are likely to cause ugly dents. To be safe, remove all shoes before walking on the floors and purchase a doormat to remove any damaging debris.

Reduce abrasion from furniture

If removing your footwear isn’t an option or is difficult, then there are plenty of other ways of avoiding damage.

One of the biggest culprits is furniture movement such as tables and chairs. Luckily there’s a way to avoid this!

Furniture pads are small fabric attachments that reduce the impact of the furniture and they are very ways to get hold of at a cheap price. Simply stick it to the bottom of your furniture and save yourself the heartache of scratched floors!

Daily Sweep

No matter what you do, things are always going to get on your floors and post a threat and there’s no substitute to combat this than to perform a daily sweep of the broom. It only takes a couple of minutes and can be the thing that protects your flooring from getting scratches and stains. Be careful with vacuums however, as some can damage! Use a soft brush and a smaller one for those hard to reach places.
