How To Pack For A Long-Distance Move

Most people do not enjoy moving. It involves a lot of work and can be very stressful. Hiring a moving company like Not A Hobby Moving  -Austin Moving can make it easier. A certified moving company is experienced, knowledgeable and has the right equipment for moving. They can make your move comfortable and reduce your stress. That said, it is advisable to pack most of your items yourself, so it is easier to unpack at the new house. Here are tips on how to pack for a long-distance move.

Plan

It is essential to start planning when you intend to move. Write down every moving task you are going to need to do. Having a plan ensures that you do not forget anything when you are moving. Create a list of all the things you will need to pack and schedule them. Ensure that your list includes collecting the keys for your new home and hiring a moving company to help you with the move.

Stay On Schedule

Make sure that you have a packing schedule and you follow it. You can choose to start by packing items in the guest rooms and the clothes and toys you do not use. If you pack items that you or your children use every day, it will become disruptive.

Get Rid Of Things You Do Not Use

We all have clothes and shoes that we do not wear. It does not make sense to bring all that stuff to your new house. It makes moving more expensive, and there is a lot more stuff to pack. If your kids have outgrown their toys, they can donate them to a local charity. Have your family go through their stuff and pick items that they do not use anymore. You can give each one a donation box, so they can fill it.

Make A Home Inventory.

Create a home inventory before you start packing. You can make a list of all the items in each room. Take pictures to ensure that you can reorganize your new home in the same way. For example, making an inventory will help you put your wall hangings in the correct rooms in your new house.

Prepare Packing Supplies

Now that you are ready to start packing, buy packing supplies for the move. Get boxes, furniture covers, plastic bags, packing papers, bubble wrap, moving blankets, and tape. If you do not want to do all the work yourself, I advise only packing personal items and hiring a moving company to do the rest. Make sure that you buy high-quality packing supplies to protect your items from damage.

Do Not Use Old Boxes.

Old boxes save you money but are not the best choice for a long-distance move. If you used the cartons before, you need to throw them out and buy new ones. Make sure that you also get rid of warped or damaged bins. If you are moving on a budget, visit your local grocery store and ask about free cartons. You can find several boxes in varying sizes that will be perfect for your move. New packing boxes are also sturdy and are unlikely to burst open when you carry them from the house to the truck.

Diy Box Handles

After getting your packing supplies, consider cutting DIY handles in the boxes. That will make them easier to carry. To cut the handles, make triangular slits in the boxes.

Label Your Boxes

When you begin packing, make sure that you label your boxes. Keep your labels as informative as possible. For instance, you can label boxes according to the rooms but if you want to have an easier time unpacking, add other details to the label, such as content. For instance, you can label a box for your dishes as Kitchen, plates, fragile, making it easier to find items when you arrive.

Do Not Put Everything In A Box.

Make sure that you do not put your valuables, such as jewelry, in packing boxes. You should also not put your identification documents and birth certificates in a box. Put these in a bag that you will have with you at all times.

Moving can be stressful, but if you use the above tried and tested packing tips, you will have an easier time. Ensure that you hire an experienced company to help with your move.
