How to Properly Clean Up Your Garage Door

I got this advertising mail the other day, it says here “garage door no. 2 special $4950” that sounds like a great deal right? It is not a great deal.

 

Stick around and I’ll show you, save time, and keep the $4950 to yourself.

 

Note that this maintenance always takes about 15 minutes and it is quite simple. You will need 

• Rent or a socket,
• A lubricant such as a pro 44, and also some
• Scrap cardboard.

 

Two primary objectives are;

1. To lubricate all the moving parts
2. To make sure that all parts are functioning as they should be

 

Let’s talk about routine maintenance specifically. Meanwhile, see here for fast garage door repairs.

 

Step 1. Release the garage from the opener

 

Step 2. Check where all the engines are tied, all manners or bolts, legs, screws. 

(go through and check each one)

 

Step 3. Next is to lubricate using Pro 44 multipurpose lubricant. Lubricate the engines which include the roller pins, make sure to do both interior and exterior parts.

 

Step 4. If you have ball-bearing, make sure to lubricate them.

 

Step 5. Make sure to open and close the garage door to get the springs spread out.

 

Step 6. Lubricate the springs.

 

Step 7. Hit the pulleys on each end of the bars. Apply lubricant around the pulley where the cable is going to go. This helps reduce friction 

(check both sides to lubricate the bearing)

 

Step 8. The most important thing is to lubricate the rail, the top part of the rail is what the traveler moves on. That is what needs the most lubrication. Run lubricant down the link of the track on both sides.

 

Step 9. Check out the manufacturer’s instructions to see what to lubricate the chain and the belt or do not lubricate them.

 

Step 10. Now that you’ve everything lubricated. You may want to open and close the door to have that lubrication spread out the moving parts. 

 

PS: This is also a good time to check out your door bounds. 

Lift it halfway, then all the way to make sure the door stays. 

 

Now if your door doesn’t stay in this position you will likely need to adjust your springs. It’s something you can do yourself but it can be a little risky so be sure to call a professional if need be. 

 

This is also a good time to check the seal to make sure it does not have any webs or rails, you might want to replace it if it does. 

 

Now if you decide to adjust your spring yourself you’ll need a set of whining bars to do that. 

 

How often should you do this? Once or twice a year to make sure your door is in good operation will make it last a very long time.
