How to Study For Math Exam in One Day

Most students find math a challenge. Math exams, even more so. 

It then becomes a somewhat overwhelming time when faced with a maths exam that you feel ill-prepared for.

All is not lost, however. By acting fast and planning systematically, it’s still possible to study in a day and perform well in your math exam. 

How do you do this? Read on to find out. 

Remain Calm

Naturally, having an exam you have not studied well can lead you to panic. This is counterproductive. Panic and anxiety cause you to lose concentration and focus.

It can also make you go through your books haphazardly without necessarily understanding the content. This is not useful.

Instead, take a few deep breaths and try to study systematically. Focus on understanding concepts rather than getting through many pages. 

Find a Quiet Spot

The thing about the last-minute study is that you have no time for distractions. You, therefore, need to find a spot that supports maximum concentration.

Find a place you can settle down and avoid all distractions. You can even switch off your phone if you tend to get distracted by it. 

This place should not be too comfortable that you fall asleep, however. 

Gather Study Materials

Going to and from the library to get books or back to your hostel will not help matters much. 

Switching between tasks eat up to 40% of your productive time. This is how much time you lose every time you break to get additional study resources.  

To prevent this, make a list of all the resources you will need to effectively study for your math exam and assemble them before settling down. 

This will take some time but will save you even more.

Clear your Schedule

If you have ever tried to study with several other things weighing on your mind, you probably already know how ineffective it was. 

Once you have a short timeline to study for an exam, you need to clear out everything else to allow yourself to focus on the matter at hand entirely.

If you have any pending assignments to handle, consider finding credible homework doers to take them for you as you give your full attention to your impending exam. 

Use Exam Papers to Study

Course instructors often test the same concepts in every other exam; this means that you are likely to identify exam patterns by studying using these papers. 

This helps you focus your studies on the most tested topics and concepts.  

This is an effective method for last minutes study. The other option is trying to get through an entire syllabus. This makes you feel overwhelmed, which leads to anxiety. It’s virtually impossible to study meaningfully in that state.

Prepare Flash Cards

Internalizing math formulas is a battle half-won. Once noted down, a procedure is more like a road map to help you get to the answer.

Write down the formulas covering the topics you expect your exam to cover, then review this throughout your study session. 

Keep looking at these and studying them periodically over the day to increase your memory and recall. 

Take Breaks

Attempting to study all night or all day does little in helping you perform better. Your mind needs occasional breaks to rejuvenate. Without this, you begin to get fatigued, which affects your concentration and ability to learn. 

As pressed as you are for time, ensure to break up your study session into manageable chunks. 

You can use your break to get a bite to eat, listen to a song, or take a walk and enjoy the fresh air.

Practice Makes Perfect

Being a practical subject, the best way to learn math is by doing, and not through passive study. 

A study by finding problems and checking your answer against provided answers, move systematically in this manner until you can solve problems in the expected test topics.
