How to tell fake citrine?

We are gonna be talking about citrine, now citrine I wouldn’t necessarily categorize as a fake crystal because what fake citrine is really it’s just baked or heated up amethyst and amethyst is a genuine crystal so it’s not necessarily fake it’s just heat-treated and some people are totally fine with that and others aren’t and just a personal preference so let’s talk about how citrine forms in nature so citrine is actually amethyst but it is heated up by the earth over thousands and thousands maybe even millions of years changing the color in the Earth’s crust.

 

Citrine is widely used on bracelets, such as many feng shui energy bracelets use this kind of citrine, the bracelet with citrine is said to bring good luck to its owner.

 

Now what people do to fake citrine is they speed up the process by putting amethyst in an industrial oven and heating it up to a degree or it changes the color of the amethyst to a yellow color to mimic citrine now because the train is a real stone why would people heat it up well is not as common as amethyst so people are mimicking it to be able to sell it to you because it’s not as common and genuine citrine is a little bit more expensive than fake citrine and definitely, amethyst is more abundantly found so it’s easier to heat up amethyst and call it’s a dream so I would say it the biggest indicator to look for fake citrine is if you ever see citrine of being sold in a cluster it is heated amethyst citrine naturally does not grow in a cluster form attached to a matrix

 

So if you have citrine on a matrix or a cluster it is most likely it baked amethyst another tip to look for when you are buying citrine is whether or not the color is isolated at the tip of the crystal mosa trene the color is full throughout the crystal it’s not just isolated at the tip so if it’s just isolated a tip it’s most likely heated amethyst another indicator to look for is if your citrine has a white base that is a huge indicator that it is heated amethyst genuine citrine will be yellow throughout it won’t have just yellow at the tip and white at the base it’ll be yellow all throughout the crystal so if you have citrine that has a white base it is most likely heated amethyst so natural citrine.

 

Another thing you can look at as an indicator not always but usually is that he treated citrine is usually a very bright yellow because the process changes it to be a bright yellow or as genuine citrine is more of a smoky honey color it’s deeper in color or the color is not faded if it’s really really bright and kind of almost looks like pee it’s usually he treated amethyst so you really want to look for that dark smoky honey color one other thing to look for if it is heat-treated amethyst as if it has a root most citrine doesn’t have a root at the bottom like an amethyst root would so if it has a root and especially if that root is white and the color is focused at the top that is most likely heat-treated amethyst and the last thing to look for when you’re buying citrine is your citrine should be pretty clear it shouldn’t be cloudy it should be pretty clear because in the process of heating up amethyst.

 

Sometimes it makes that crystal very cloudy so if your citrine is really cloudy it most likely is heat-treated amethyst if your citrine is pretty clear and there is no fogginess it is most likely genuine citrine okay so the last crystal we are going to be discussing today is turquoise now turquoise is extremely expensive and pretty rare to find most of the turquoise on the market today is typically fake or stabilized turquoise so stabilized turquoise is meaning that there is turquoise but it’s mixed with other things to help stabilize it so the color doesn’t fade or change or anything like that it still has turquoise in it but it’s not a hundred percent genuine turquoise so fake turquoise couldn’t be anything from resin to dyed howlite there are many forms that fake turquoise can take so you have to be really careful when purchasing it and I’m going to give you some signs to look for when buying real turquoise.

 

Another fun fact is it is said that only 3% of turquoise on the market is actually genuine, genuine turquoise can cost you in the hundreds of dollars especially for full of necklaces sometimes those can be a thousand dollars so if you’re getting turquoise necklaces or turquoise jewelry pieces for 10 or 15 dollars it is most likely fake.
