But how do you go about it?

Right here in this article, I will show you the step by step process on how to wash your car at home the DIY-way. But before commencing, if you’re based in Houston, see these close-to-new Houston used cars from a reputable dealership.

First things first…

Things Needed For Car Wash At Home

You need a car wash equipment list to start with. And I have shared the 12 important things you need in a car cleaning kit that you need below.

  • Car shampoo
  • Buckets
  • Grit Guard
  • Hose nozzle
  • Tire shine
  • Wheel brush
  • Washing mitt
  • Microfiber towel
  • Car wax
  • Dustbuster
  • Car dash duster
  • And glass cleaner

Are you with them now? Great. Let’s get started.

Step 1; Prepping

  • Get under a shade; direct sunlight can ruin both the washing process and the results for you. So you want to park the car under a shade first. By so doing, you can prevent sunlight from evaporating water quickly away from your washing solution, and evaporation which would have left splurges on your car after washing. Another reason to park wash under shade is that your car is prevented from heating up by sunlight. And once the parking is done, close all windows, retract all external antennas and click your windshield wipers into their propped position.

  • Bring everything you need; remember the washing equipment listed previously, bring them under the shade where the car is.

  • Prepare your washing mixture; introduce a reasonable amount of your washing solution of choice into the bucket of water and stir till lather is formed. If your tires are dirtier than the car itself, you may need to prepare two separate washing mixture buckets for each.

  • Prepare rinsing water; a third bucket should be filled with water for rinsing purpose.

Step 2; Washing

  • Loosen the dirt; from top to bottom, apply jet of water, not aggressively, to loosen the sticky dirt to make the washing process easy. Note that the water jet should also be applied around the wheels and that you must pay special attention to windows to avoid water from sipping in through flawed rubber seals.

  • Wash with the solution; with your prepared washing mixture, start from the wheels first by scrubbing with your wheel brush. With another bucket of soapy water, wash the car body from top to doors. Note that the body panels should be washed section-by-section.

Step 3; Rinse

  • From wheels to the top; this time, the water jet from your hose should be applied with a lot of pressure on the wheels whilst a lesser pressure should be used on the body panels.

  • Dry; finally, with your microfiber towel, dry the body panels from section to section.
