CAT 2021 Result has been announced on January 03, 2022. The qualifying CAT 2021 Cut off for MBA batch 2022-24 has been released by the IIMs on their official websites and the admission process of the IIMs Colleges is likely to be started soon.

To get admission in IIMs, you have to fulfil selection, as well as, eligibility criteria as furnished by the IIMs colleges. The shortlisting criteria for IIMs may be different on several stages. IIMs in India: An Overview

IIMs are institutes of management education and research of highest repute in India under the jurisdiction of the Indian Education Ministry. The institutes mainly offer PG, doctoral and executive level courses along with some additional courses in management. IIMs have been also awarded with institutions of ‘National Importance’ by the Ministry of MHRD, India.

At present there are 20 IIMs and the shortlisting criteria in their flagship MBA course is primarily done through CAT 2021 score followed by a written ability test (WAT) and personal interview (PI). Each IIM has its own selection criteria for admission as furnished in their notifications.

IIMs Admission Criteria 2022 at a glance

IIMs’ admission criteria 2022 has been marginally changed to improve their batch profile and diversity. Admission in these IIMs is based on their Admission Policy 2022. One of the most important common mandatory requirements in all the IIMs’ Admission Policy is that the applicant should have appeared in CAT exam and scored non-zero positive marks with necessary overall and sectional percentile cut off.

IIMs have also furnished a provision to defer confirmed admission. Based on this, a candidate who desires to earn some work experience prior to pursuing the MBA/ PGP course is permitted to defer their admission for up to a maximum of two years. This provision was introduced in 2015 and around 10% of seats are kept aside for such candidates.

IIMs Admission criteria with CAT cut offs

IIMs shortlisting criteria have now a reduced weightage to CAT scores to enhance the academic diversity in their classrooms. The shortlisting criteria of each IIM is independent from one another on some grounds.There is no involvement of other IIMs in finalizing the admission policy of any IIM college unless it is a new or Baby IIM and is under the mentorship of another top ranked IIM. Stages of IIM Admission and Selection Process

IIM admission criteria is divided into three stages. Mentioned below is an overview of the three stages of IIM admission:

Stage 3: Composite Score calculation and Final Shortlisting

New IIMs MBA Admission Criteria: IIM-CAP

The common WAT and PI round, known as Common Admission Process (CAP), for 9 Baby IIMs namely IIM Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi, Trichy, Udaipur and 5 newest IIMs – IIM Amritsar, IIM BodhGaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur, is mentored and coordinated by one of the comparatively old IIMs. All these CAP participating Baby IIMs do not organize their final admission round separately and based on the scores obtained in CAP round with their other individual parameters, prepare the final merit list to offer admission to the candidates. 

IIM Rohtak, IIM Nagpur and IIM Visakhapatnam conduct own Final Process for Admission

IIM Rohtak has opted out of the CAP round and administered its own shortlisting criteria. IIM Nagpur and IIM Visakhapatnam have not yet participated in CAP round and conduct their own final admission round.The admission offers will be made based on the final merit list prepared keeping in view CAT scores, Academic profile, Work experience and gender diversity as per the weightage awarded to each of these factors.

Documents to Present in WAT/GD-PI Round

• Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation Marksheets (original and self-attested photocopies)
• Caste/ class and/or disability certificate in case of reserved candidates (original and self-attested photocopies)
• Candidates appearing for the final year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) examination should possess a certificate from the Principal/Registrar/Director of the university/institution confirming that he/she has achieved 50%   aggregate (45 per cent for reserved category).
