Is Minimalism Still In Vogue in 2022?

Have you ever thought about trying out the minimalism style? It takes a clear out and some self-discipline but it’s actually very easy to implement from there. But is it still in style in 2022? We’re looking at the minimalism style and how you can update it for your home in 2022.

What is minimalism?

Minimalism is a style that everyone has seen. In homes it is seen as neutral tones, high contrast colors, and few but bold centerpieces and decorative accessories. It’s mainly seen in white rooms with black furniture. You can find bedroom sets for cheap that fit the minimalist look with bold black bed frames for a more neutral-toned bedroom.

No

However, with every extreme reaction is an equal and opposite reaction. In this case, due to the popularity of minimalism, there is of course a counterculture aesthetic that is called maximalism. Unlike how many people think, there are rules to maximalism that make it look good. You can’t just put everything you have in a room and hope it works, but it’s very difficult to get right.

But the benefits are that it offers everything minimalism doesn’t. Namely the warmth and cozy feeling that minimalism is often missing. Minimalism can feel very barren, or sterile, if it’s done wrong, and it’s very easy to make your home look a mess if only one thing is out of place.

Yes

Minimalism will always have an appeal to people, and it offers a lot of benefits beyond aesthetic purposes. It’ll force you to clear out, it’s easier to clean up, and it really showcases the few high-quality things you have rather than a lot of low quality pieces fighting for attention. This is just a few of the reasons you’re more than likely to see this style amongst the richest people with the biggest houses. They have things, yes, but the minimalist style makes sure there is a place for everything and everything in its place and only what should be displayed, is.

Minimalism is in fashion, it’s in web design, and it’s in interior design all for the same reasons: simplicity makes for a good spotlight. For that reason alone, it’s likely to be in vogue forever at some capacity. However, it’s going through a new phase of popularity by having a bit of a makeover.

There are more middle ground designs that are strongly minimalist, with just a rule break here and there. Such as Asian minimalism, which has the solid colors, the high contrast, and the sparing decorative elements, but it has the much-loved Asian principle of injecting nature into every element. So chosen colors include burnt brown, forest green, etc., and decorative items include candles, water features, and stalky plants.

And then there are those that are going with the minimalism look but adding a splash of color so as to not look entirely stark. Adding a brown leather sofa to an all-white room or maybe even a little color blocking to a more empty space can keep the core principles of minimalism without feeling too extreme.
