Looking After Your Dog Amidst a Pandemic

If you are a dog owner who has recently been confined to the realm of remote working, there is some chance that you will have felt the stare of your furry companion on the back of your head as you tirelessly attempt to be productive. Dogs are feeling the burden of the pandemic, too, and need their share of love, attention, and good food.

But as you probably suspected, there is a multitude of diverse factors to consider when it comes to looking after your dog amidst a pandemic. Things such as the home environment, being able to get out, and the food your dog eats can all contribute to a good experience during the pandemic. Feeding your dog some healthy yet tasty ancient grains can seriously help it stay relaxed and happy during these tough times. These are some reasons to choose ancient grains dog food, so be sure to check them out to learn more.

A Clean Environment

It is important to keep a clean home for the health of yourself and your dog, as there is evidence to suggest that animals can, in fact, catch the coronavirus. Making sure to regularly wash your dog’s food and water bowls and any blankets and bedding to ensure you reduce the risk of disease. The same can be said for any collars and leads you might use frequently.

Similarly, making sure to thoroughly wash you hands before interacting with your dog can help to combat the chance of transmission.

Exercise

Any proud Dalmatian or Labrador owners will know that dogs need a healthy amount of exercise to remain happy and healthy, an activity that perhaps requires extra caution as a result of the pandemic.

In order to maintain social distancing, you may have to consider keeping your dog on the lead when you take them for a walk, especially if your dog is particularly friendly and curious. This can limit the chances of having to come into close contact with other dog walkers and people exercising.

If you need to let your dog off the leash, it might be worth thinking about going for your walks at times you know are less busy or finding a new route away from popular destinations. Generally, avoiding busy areas can be a good precautionary measure to put in place.

Time Alone

An owner spending more time at home, in general, might sound like a dog’s dream come true. It can be important to remember that dogs need their alone time and might feel overstimulated when you are constantly in the home. Moreover, they might become frustrated if you cannot give them your constant attention throughout the day, perhaps because of your need to work remotely.
