Machine Embroidery on SkyJackets

Of the different garments that can be embroidered, jackets seem the easiest. When most people think of skyjackets in terms of embroidery, large parts of the entire back and left chest designs come to mind. What many of us often forget are the small balls that clothing manufacturers add to their designs, such as box pleats and lower back seams. Fashion-forward styles may have something like a raglan sleeve because they have no shoulder seam guidelines and can leave the design position.

One surefire way to get started is to work with the right embroidery jacket and work on the techniques that cause the least headaches. So, do some research on the latest trends. Also, start with a machine in perfect condition with new needles and bobbins. Here are other essential elements to consider in your quest to decorate sweaters without problems.

Collar selection

The best choice among the collars for jackets is the double-rising collar. This ring is longer than the average ring, so it gives more grip. You can wrap your collar with white floral tape, medical gauze, til tape or bias tape to prevent collar marks and tighten. Tissue paper, wrapping paper or wax paper can also be used. 

Place this material on top of the jacket, and then cut a window for embroidery. A thin layer of tape will also help. But avoid it as the masking tape will stick and leave residue on the jacket and collar. When choosing your own bracelets, keep in mind that oval bracelets hold up better than square rings with oval angles. Fits “oval square” angles better than sides and top and bottom.

Needles

The size and type of needle depending on the structure of the jacket. Leather jackets require 80/12 intensity. (Wedge-shaped “leather” needles do more harm than good.) Use the same sharp needle on poplin and other cotton jackets. Use light 70/10 or 80/12 ballpoint pens on nylon windbreakers and 75/11 ballpoint pens on satin and oxford nylon to avoid slipping into fat.

Heavy sweaters, canvas jackets, and jeans require a strong sharp needle. The shorts are well sewn with a ballpoint pen or sharpie. Dry ink needles are pushed through the fabric to adjust the seams, and sharp tools cut the fabric. A good rule of thumb is to use a needle of the same size used to sew the cover seams on the assembly.

As for the thread, polyester is a good choice for embroidery on jackets that are subject to coastal weather and climate. Be sure to include washing and dry cleaning instructions in your final product. Consider choosing a needle with a large eye when working with metal and other heavy threads

Design mode

Hold the straight end across the sleeve from the side seam to the bottom side seam of the sleeve. Mark a horizontal line, then measure from the bottom of the jacket to the same line and check again. Jackets are not always sewn together. Measure the straight line and divide it in half and find the middle of the jacket. Draw a vertical line across the horizontal line at this point. 

The intersection of the two lines will be the center. If you rotate the design to sew upside-down or to the sides, keep this in mind when measuring and then on the collar. Use tailor’s chalk, ballpoint pens, or masking soap to mark your clothes. Avoid using pins. Masking tape in thin strips is available at art stores. It is easy to remove and leaves no marks. However, wide duct tape can leave debris.

Focusing the design eight inches down from the back of the collar is a good place to start, as it should work on most jackets. Smaller sizes would be better at six inches; It can be as large as 10 inches. The top of the design should fall about 2 inches below the collar of the jacket. Keep in mind that this will change if the jacket has a hood. Then the design needs to be placed under the hood.
