Make Your Home Safer and More Efficient in 2021

The New Year is a perfect time to rethink your home. You’re already making personal resolutions for the coming year – you might as well jot down a fewhome objectives while you’re at it!

To start, think about two of the most critical functions of your home: security and efficiency. A home should be a safe shelter from intruders and a tightly sealed refuge against the elements. Luckily, efficiency and safety aren’t mutually exclusive. There are renovation projects you can undertake this year that will make your home both safer and greener.

If you want a worry-free home and a shock-free energy bill, consider putting these renovation projects on your resolution list in 2021.

Install Triple Glazed Windows

If it’s superior thermal performance and added security you are after, consider installing triple glazed windows. As the name implies, triple glazed windows are made using three panes of glass (rather than the standard one- or two-paned windows.) This added layer of Low-E protection, coupled with an additional chamber of argon gas –an inert noble gas that improves thermal insulation –make triple glazed windows effective in even the coldest climates.

Whereas old, inefficient windows can cause your energy bill to skyrocket, triple glazed windows put that money back where it belongs: in your pocket. In addition to its thermal contribution, that third pane of glass also makes the window more resistant to break-ins, deterring potential burglars.

Triple glazed windows are available in various window types that suit every house – check them out today.

Renovate with a New Front Entry System

According to home security experts, the second most common entry point for an intruder is the window. The first is the front door.

The first step in securing your home is considering whether your front door is an adequate deterrent. Is it old and lightweight, with an outdated locking system? If so, it needs to go. Instead, look for a door that’s sturdily built, ideally of fibreglass or steel, and has a multi-point locking system for additional protection.

Not only will a quality steel or fibreglass door protect your family from intruders, but it also helps tightly seal the home for further energy efficiency. Just make sure you find one with a door sealing system that stops air and water leakage.

Make the Switch to Outdoor LED Lights

Outdoor lights serve many purposes. They illuminate your path home at the end of a long day. They show off your home’s curb appeal in the evening. And, of course, they act as an effective deterrent against burglars.

To make them more efficient this year, switch to LED lights. LED lights last 25 times longer than their standard incandescent counterparts and use 75% less energy. This allows you to keep your home safe around the clock without worrying about the lighting’s effect on your energy bill.

With these three simple projects, you can make significant improvements to your home in 2021. Who says safety and efficiency don’t go hand-in-hand?
